To be fair, it's fairly standard practice - anyway, why should cycling be free if other sports charge?

In Belgium, it's usual to have to pay up to 20 Euros to watch a Kermesse or a cyclocross.

They have to climb Box Hill nine times?  That's sisyphean.

Murdoch has to pay off all those bent coppers somehow.

I hear they're going to charge to watch the marathon too. ;)

The enclosures at the start/end are charged for. Given the scale of the infrastructure needed to ensure that teh race can be watched without adverse consequences for the race or the spectators, it seems reasonable to charge.

There are plenty of places to watch where it won't be charged - a good pub along the route with a big screen would be an excellent spot.

I've got some friends who live in Dorking and we were going to go up and watch the road race

But when I heard that access to the Hill would be tightly controlled and all seats would be charged for etc etc I decided to give it a miss

Let's face it, the Olympics isn't for me.  Except of course as a tax payer

I stumped up for 4 tickets on the Zig Zag at £10 a piece; it's the only event I'm going to see and will be a mare to get a good viewpoint anywhere else in the area

really looking forward to it  :)

You can get to see much of the loop without having to pay.
I have a position booked at Hyde Park Corner.. Say hello if you are there. I'll be attempting to subvert my Olympic volunteer togs with a pair of Glasgow 2014 shoelaces.

Martin - I'll be on the Zig Zag with my son. See you there (if not sooner)!

I'm too disorganised to plan ahead and go on websites for tickets and the like, but I just got an email from an organised pal saying he's got a pair of tickets on Box Hill for me & the missus.  :)

I hope there's no damage to the Box Hill area as a result.  It's a lovely place for walking (can I mention that on here?)
