The LNER guard opened both sides of the cupboard - the short side nearest the exterior carriage door also retracts, making access to the hooks much easier. I've never seen this unlocked or open on GWR.

Neither have I!

GWR guards are generally invisible - I've never had any kind of assistance when boarding or during a journey, no matter the problem (usually standing in a crowded vestibule with the bike because the cupboard was full of other people's carp).

Services on the GWML cancelled today.  The Class 800 trains all need inspecting due to fatigue cracks in the bogies.  4000 to test.

Same problem on LNER
It is simpler than it looks.

Though apparently some are running on the North Cotswold line (Worcester to Oxford), so perhaps it's not all the sub-classes?

Or perhaps word hasn't reached Oxfordshire?? (it's also quite a slow line ... FWIW ...)

Most have only been in service for a couple of years if that.  Hardly bodes well  ::-)  I still hate the bloody things every time I have to use them.

Apparently there are two separate and unrelated lots of cracks. Some are in the lifting jack pockets and others are in the yaw damper fixings.  :o

Can we have the HSTs back please?

Alternatively, is there any chance the repairs to the trains will involve putting in better bike spaces?

Can we have the HSTs back please?...
The HSTs had teething problems: air intake beside carriage brakes.....

They still stank to the end when braking for stations.

They did, I don't think the filters were very effective!

At least the engineers at Derby fixed the problem they had with the prototype where the trailing end toilets would flush **upwards** under certain circumstances...

The old Paxman engines, while the turbos made a great noise, were also famously smoky.  The new MTU engines were much cleaner (I suppose there was less of a "buy British" rule after BR ).

Is those the ones where they've converted a whole carriage to bikes? Shame they didn't show us the interior.

Half bike spaces and half seating, so you can keep an eye on the bike, etc.

There's some pictures on ScotRail's twitter here.

Does anyone have a picture of bikes on the class 800 trains, that are high Res, and they are willing to release as creative commons CC-BY-SA? Ideally I'd like one of skinny road bikes fitting, and some normal bikes not fitting properly.

Thanks

I've got one of my Pretty Bike. 25mm tyres, mudguards, rack. I'll dig it out in a bit.

I was riding along Wootton Bassett Road last night and took a big lungful of air just as a train was braking on the bridge.  It really gets you in the back of the throat.  Bring back cast iron tyre brakes like in the old days!

Tim, that is a superb bike!  Reminder to self to put bottle in front holder in case of leaks!  The lug work is practically canalboat!

Would you be able to send me a high res version of this? Can it be used as Creative commons CC-BY-SA?

Thanks

I replied to the request on twitter, but from Tim's picture i see that the bar to block one of the hangers from use hasn't always been there.
