Macbook pro windows 10 drivers
« on: 08 February, 2021, 10:53:08 pm »
I've got a 2014 Macbook pro (i7 2.2ghz 16GB) that's been running linux for a while as it stopped getting OS updates from Apple.

I've rebuilt it with Windows 10 which it seems to do ok as I have a bunch of radio software that is windows only and won't work in wine as they all link together in tedious ways.  However I'm missing a couple of drivers.

Does anyone have a newer mac (but not the new processor) that they can download the windows support software on for me, my other machine is far too old apparently and will only download windows 7 drivers.

MBP i9 if that's any help. Let me know what you need.
It is simpler than it looks.

Thank you,

The bootcamp assistant will download the windows drivers onto a memory stick (which can just be copied off the stick) but it seem to be the only way to get the windows 10 ones.

I think I probably need most of them as they come with an installer that sorts the camera and things out.  If you can zip them up for me and put them somehwhere for me to download that would be super useful.  It's a shame it's come to this, but it's the only way to keep this box going and use the software I need.

Just as an aside, Apple still continue to provide security updates for older systems – my 2009 Mac Mini downloaded one the last time I turned it on.

While alas it got security updates the programme I was using on it with my radio equipment no longer supports the version of Mac OS the machine stopped at.  I want/need to use the newer version as it supposedly crashes less, and has features I want.  Alas Linux proved unsatisfactory as some of the hardware in the machine doesn't work and apple don't make drivers for it.

Windows 10 will run without bootcamp (given I had already nuked the disk) and supports the app version I want.

My 2010 Macbook pro still gets some security updates, alas it's bootcamp assistant will only download drivers for windows 7/8 because that's what apple have decided it'll run.

I could just go and buy a Dell refurb laptop, because I'm not that fussy about the machine itself but the washing machine died last week and I've just bought a new one so can't really go on a spending spree right now.

This worked in the end but required some tweaking.

Seriously apple it's my computer why can't I just download the drivers for it so I can do what I want with it.

Because then you'd have Windows. You have seen what it's done to Señor Larrers.

I'd rather not have windows but I'm stuck in the position where the app requires a newer version of the OS that apple believe I deserve.   I tried Linux which has reasonable driver support (alas no camera though) but one of the applications is windows or mac osx only.  My hands are tied so to speak.

I have to say this will probably be the last Mac I will have bought as I'm just going to replace it will a dull reliable Dell when the hardware packs in because I've frankly had enough of the hardware maker getting to decide how long my computer can be useful for despite them being pretty and actually liking the OS.

I think, to be fair, that's the software not the hardware that defines the version of MacOS required (with the proviso of the move to 64-bit only). My old Mac Mini runs happily as a server on an older version of MacOS (still supported with security patches) but sure, it won't run Creative Cloud. But for that matter, it probably won't run under older versions of Windows. Supporting old hardware is expensive.

Interesting, when I had tried to upgrade it had said no. It's a bit late now alas.
