Hilly routes always seem much tougher in the car then they do on the bike. Its the 'roller coaster' effect.

Agree entirely. I did last years Etape and nearly had a laundry problem at the top of the Tourmalet looking over the edge when I'd parked the car. On the day, atop a bike, no problem.

Earlier we drove up a hill that lasted forever prior to the first Cat 3 climb of the day. Imagine our surprise when we found the following day that someone had stolen it overnight.

Does anyone know who this photo belongs to?

http://flic.kr/p/bEE6fK

Its an American rider, possibly on Yad Moss?

It would be really handy to know, as we'd like to use it on the new LEL website.

I rode with a Canadian called Ken Bonner who had a reflective triangle on the back of his bike. He also had mud guards and a handlebar mirror.

Possibly him?

I have to post this, because I read it for the first time only this morning:
You must not, for instance, show a red light at the front, or a white light to the rear, or fit triangular-shaped rear reflectors on anything other than trailer.

- From CTC lighting regs page.

 :o

I wonder if it has a different usage in the States?

I do my best!

I saw a lot on PBP - you could be pretty sure a USAnian was ahead when you spotted one.

Try sending the above request to: randon@googlegroups.com

A lot of American riders use it.

BTW, if anyone fancies it, it would be really handy having a couple of people try out the draft LEL website to see if it makes sense.

Drop me a line if you've 15 minutes to spare.

Coincidentally this was discussed en velo this morning & drawn specifically to my attention;probably because I have a large red reflective triangle on the rear mudflap of the Longstaff.

The new website is almost ready to launch.

It's a bit late for major amends now, but it would be useful to get feedback and help spot snags.

Here's the link:

http://lel.angelo.inventpartners.com

It'll be launched properly (on our domain) in the next few days, hopefully.

Great website. Got me all excited!

Only one very minor glitch:

Directions from London railway stations

All international train services arrive at London St Pancras. Click here for a GPS tracklog and routesheet from St Pancras to Loughton.

There's no link to a tracklog.
Mojo is being awakened.

Wow, what an improvement on last time.  It almost makes me want to cancel my offer of volunteering and ride the thing again!  Well done to all involved.

One suggestion - which will need the help of forumites, I suspect, would be a link to blogs about previous rides.
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

This is all good - please keep it coming.

Once this stage is finished, we'll start work on translations in French, Italian and German.

I volunteered in 2009:in truth not fully appreciating what LEL was all about.
I did it 'cause some of my friends & their friends were riding & it seemed appropriate to support them.

I'm hoping to ride in 2013

As you say the website is inspirational

Nicely done.
Spotted one typo in the FAQ: "If you are late at a control, but you think you can still finish in time, then please make every effort to continue. We will not disqualify any rider with a reasonable change of finishing in time."

chance?

Looking good!

The website for the Edinburgh control wraps correctly in Firefox, but just continues off the screen in Chrome

Not a big deal.

On the Event Info, the final question readss "We will not disqualify any rider with a reasonable change of finishing in time."

Controls information details page:  Will you add opening/closing times when the route is finalised ?
In text link on controls page to "Central London Prologue"  might be better linking to the Info page.

This stuff on the info page (under what facilities are are at each control)
Quote
However, not all controls will have all these facilities. These controls will not offer all facilities:
    Kirton - no showers
Traquair - very limited hot food, very limited sleeping facilities, no showers
Eskdalemuir - very limited sleeping facilities, no showers
    Brampton - no showers
Great Easton - very limited hot food, very limited sleeping facilities, no showers
Note that Traquair is not a mandatory control.

should also be listed under the individual control pages.

Shame about the lack of showers at Brampton.... that's thrown my "cunning plan" into complete disarray.
