Jonathan Miller has died

Highly talented bloke from my formative years. He did excellent science programmes (he was a medical doctor) but also was a first rate director. I'm pretty sure he directed a number of Mozart operas to some considerable acclaim.

The most memorable thing I recall from him was as part of a series about the human body and he repeatedly breathed the same air, but the CO2 had been extracted. He demonstrated that his body was not able to recognise the lack of oxygen other than when he all but passed out and an assistant arrived with an oxygen mask.

Sad.  Dying at 85 isn't surprising, but for a brilliant brain to die of Alzheimer's is tragic.
