TV coverage is pretty hopeless; rain is obscuring the camera lenses, and it seems they can't afford a lens wiper.

Agreed. The Yanks don't know how to televise a bike race. No gap information, not enough moto cameras, insufficient ability to get the picture to the screen. Eurosport commentary was valiant, at one point they gave up and gave us a review of Cavendish's 2008 results. Can't wait for the racing to get back to Europe.

Yes the coverage was a shambles.

They just lost the signal completely for nearly an hour - unfortunately I had just settled down on the turbo so I spent a long time looking at repeated aerials of the California coastline.

And as the Eurosport people are not on site they didn't even have access to the race radio to give any sort of commentary.

Race radio was lambasted yesterday for providing poor info.

I think that is why Johan made Astana TTT to the finish even though nothing depended on it.  (AIUI)

Can't wait for the racing to get back to Europe.

I don't really care about the Race to the Sun, but I love the Spring Classics.  The pave in Flanders and Paris Roubaix are hallowed ground.

Cav's doing OK in California - he's won stage #4 and stage #5, beating Boonen into second place on both occasions . And in the GC, it seems likely that Levi Leipheimer will win after his performance in the timetrail.

Cavendish's finish on stage 5 was BBC news !!  With footage, not just stills from some other race last year !!  BBC !!  Prime time !!  I was amazed and very very pleased.
