Good luck Steve !

I've had a jippy gut too these past few days and I recon it was down to road muck on my bottles -  bits of slug and squirrel and badger etc. which have been squished over a relatively warm road, persistently wet, allowing stuff to fester away nicely.

I've taken to carrying the bottles in my jersey pockets whilst I'm suffering from gungeophobia, but that is no fun. Maybe I'll get the camelback washed out ...

It was winter "gut rot" that made me switch to Bidons with covered spouts some years back.

If you don't cover the spouts then you can't avoid ingesting farm slurry.  You wouldn't lick the stuff off the road outside a farm so why drink it off your water bottles?
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

And don't be fooled into thinking mudguards cure the problem, because they don't. A steady stream of tyre-spray flicks forward from the top of the tyre which, given an (inevitable) headwind, then comes back at you, and can land on your bottles.

Because you don't have to get off your bike to do it.  Come on!
