I hope the head wind isn't too strong, he should be home for lunch?

Turn to the north. Too soon to tell if it's a triangular route back to Lynn.

Wind is dropping.  Back northish until 18:00 then turn for home in the evening calm perhaps?

If I found myself that close to Ipswich I'd probably pull a Crazy Ivan too.

Steve is famous for riding the great triangle many years ago.

He is about to enter the annals of sporting glory.  Allez Steve

For some reason or other I haven't read all this thread; what is "Crazy Ivan"?

I believe it is a reference to a (possibly fictional) Russian submariner, m'lud, and his habit of abrupt changes of course to shake off the pursuing surface vessels. Or something.

I understand the popular ballad was a eulogy to 'Ivan' Barrett ....founder of Barrett Homes?

Great Yarmouth, Cromer and now heading south again.  When viewed from the right vantage point it probably spells a very rude word.

I hope he rides through till midnight, retires to a hotel and doesn't ride tomorrow. He'll probably get on his bike again though.

Perhaps somebody from his team will do the right thing.

One year I had to ride Dec 31st to keep my Randonneur Round the Year going and it did worry me quite a lot - the thought of a bunch of drunks on the road that evening.

I hope Steve doesn't encounter a second motorised drunkard in 2015.

My son & I had a 'traditional' post midnight ride for a few years - it was remarkably quiet and calm on Leicester's suburban roads.

I take it those roads didn't go through Braunstone or Highfields then. Pretty busy after midnight if I recall  ;-)
