When I got the new bike (oh, 15 months ago) I promised myself a Carradice pannier to go with it.
Trouble is I can't make up my mind between the bike bureau commuter pannier (http://www.carradice.co.uk/index.php?page_id=product&product_id=64) and the A4 pannier (http://www.carradice.co.uk/index.php?page_id=product&under=range&url=a4-pannier). What think the panel?
My usual commuting luggage is lunch (three small boxes and three pieces of fruit), wallet, phone, iPod, small notebook, work pass. On the way home the fruit is replaced by the shirt, socks and pants I was wearing that day. If I need to bring anything larger in, I can always revert to the courier bag I currently use.
One thing which tells against the A4 is that it's useful to have somewhere for the pass/cardkey to live which is accessible without having to open the main bag.
What think the panel?

I'd always go for something with pockets for day-to-day use. As you say, quick access to keys etc, and I find it's handy to have somewhere for the bike tools to live where they won't be removed and forgotten if you empty out all your shopping/commuting/whatever stuff.
