A proper circus!

Wow!

We went to the circus this evening. What a lot of fun, fun, and more fun.

It is simpler than it looks.

I was courting Emily a few years ago, while she was working with Giffords.
Prior to that, she was one of the trapeze artists who, whilst wearing 2 metre stilts, were bungeed in from the roof of The Dome, when it first opened.
Interesting times.

It was only about two miles away. We’ve been meaning to go for about 15 years!

They are based so close to us that running away with the circus wouldn’t really mean that!

The future will be challenging as Nell Gifford has a year to live
It is simpler than it looks.

Extreme ironing?

I think you're going to have to explain this one...

It was his pet iron.

It followed him round the ring and then he made it sit!

I presume the frying pan was for spanking his pet iron?

Excellent photos Jaded, captures it well.
As a tenous claim to fame, I made Nell a lean to stable tent to go off the side of her truck, while she was travelling with a French circus, in the UK, pre Gifford.
She wrote a book about her experiences trying to break into the circus world, amongst other things, Josser - which is the derogatory term for such an outsider.

So many connections! In 2002 I was on the panel that awarded a £10,000 Jerwood Circus Award to the young tenting company, and helped them come to Hoxton Square for their first performances in London.

Hoxton Square is where I hooked up with Emily, mentioned upthread .
I think that I may’ve been slightly ahead of the Hoxton hipster curve.
