I has bought a duplicate replacement for my Carradice Bike Bureau.

I am pleased to report that the new, like the old, is a Sue.

Some interesting minor tweaks to the design, which appear to be improvements, viz strengthened the side loop substantially (no sign of issue from the old one, tbh), improved the laptop location by adding a simple pocket fixed to the back plate, altered the latching device so that it will be automatically latched, replaced the riveted name plate with an embossed leather. I'm not sure that the change from nylon to metal shoulder strap latches is a positive one (although clearly others use the shoulder strap more than I do - hence the reinforcement). The rubber top handle has been lost (shame) and the area of weakness at the join of the top flap hasn't been addressed, but it is only a weakness if you handle it wrongly by lifting by the flap, which unfortunately is a natural thing to do.

I should point out that the old one is only 10 (?) years old and there's life in it yet, but aforesaid area of weakness and general advancing age has prompted me to replace the best commuting pannier I have ever used.

All I need to do now is find some way of transferring the patina...... it will feel unnatural to use a new carradice.

Not cycling related, but I ordered 2 new sleeping bags and a polo shirt at the same time (the joys of shopping on sportpursuit)

I wanted a white water bottle to go with my newly acquired white Bridgestone Moulton. Already bought a white plastic bottle cage, and found a suitable bottle, including a protective cap, on ebay. Arrived today, posted from China, including postage: £1.31.

A pair of these.
I didn't know such a thing existed until someone on LFGSS mentioned them.

Is there a bargain to be had on chains?

Not especially, but my recumbent is in more urgent need of one twoannahalf than I anticipated.

Bits arriving by the box load, just need crankset and a frame to bolt them all onto

It's been a while since I bought any but CRC used to do 'em cheaper if you bought three at a time, which was well handy for Dark Siders.

What do you do with the odd length?   Is it enough that you only need two chains next time?

2 pairs of shorts as some of my older ones are getting a little see-through!

Just picked two pairs up from Evans near Mordor.   They were what I wear, well, second choice, and at a bargainous price.   I needed two new pairs so I splashed.

I have a collection of spare links from 114 link sram pc970? chains.   I know that they are not supposed to be re-riveted but I might try for experimental purposes when I rebuild the tandem.

I've never had a problem with joined PC971s on the recumbents.  But that's a recumbent, where you try to avoid putting too much force through the chain because it wrecks your knees.  Tandems might be another matter...

Huge success!  I had enough bits of chain to make a chain out of one new chain plus the bits.  Turned out there was a 3/4-of-a-chain off-cut left over from doing the trike.

The shorts arrived today, wore the first pair on a fast ride out. Possibly the most comfortable shorts I have ever worn! The pad is just the right shape and thickness. Time will tell how they stand up to longer rides. FTR they are Craft Move shorts.

I took my #1 tourer (1975 Galaxy) out for a shakedown ride prior to a cycle tour in France & Belgium in June (not ridden the machine since July 2015)

It turned out to be a "shakedown" in more ways than anticipated as the rear mudguard clip on the brake bridge sheared (didn't stop me riding, just rattled annoyingly.   Other than that it was just like an old friend - which it is.

An expensive day out  ;D
