I've gone for 2 x brie and grapes, and 1 x chicken & avocado with salad. And I've put a strategically placed note out to remind me to bring them.

David doesn't like cheese and we seldom have cold meat here.
I usually make him egg mayo & tomato sandwiches. Egg gets mashed with equal quantities of mayo and salad cream, then mixed with black pepper.
There are always other additions to the lunch box: fresh fruit, CAKE crudités, a small pork pie + pot of mango chutney etc.
A packed lunch is rather more than a mere sandwich IMO.

Nowt today, as the bread machine operative (me) has been a bit lazy.

Normally (ie nearly every day) Marmite. Perhaps enhanced with sliced tomato. Sometimes a bit of cold meat from the roast.

But normally Marmite.  As a baby I was brought up on Marmite on my Weetabix with hot milk. I like Marmite.  And on toast for brekko.

In the early days of living with the now Mrs. Hall we were in Mr. Sainsbury's Emporium of Toothy Comestibles. She bought some pate to go in her sandwiches.

"But you bought ham for your sandwiches last week "

"I know. I wanted a change"

Change in sandwich error? Redo from start.

I think I get round to making lunchtime sandwiches once every six months or so.  I tend to just hit the supermarket at lunchtime and get a salad or a ready-made sarnie.

For shame  :-[

Feeling a strange urge to purchase marmite.

Marmite + crushed nuts - sounds interesting. What kind of nuts?

True enough, sometimes I'll pack something like some Pork Pies, or Quiche (egg pie!), along with a small pot of pickle, and possibly some pickled onions. <fx: oniony burp> ;D

Some people I work with will bring in containers of cold leftovers from the previous supper, but cold potatoes and cold stew don't really appeal to me.
Actually, it is rocket science.

Whatever you like. I like cashews, but in their absence use chopped mixed nuts. Flaked almonds work quite well too :D.

if i bring sandwiches, I inevitably eat them by 10am then buy more for lunch. So i don't bring them.

+1 (in shame)

If I bring sandwiches I eat them the moment I sit down at my desk.

Usually cheese and pickle / chutney / salad, with some fruit for after. Made the night before if I'm going to get the kids to school on time. I get cake for tensies from the cafe. On a wednesday we have a pub lunch to go with our research group meeting, otherwise I usually eat at my desk. About once a month I contrive to go via the butcher for one of his freshly baked and rather good pies.

I'm going to try walnuts. I suppose this is a more sophisticated version of that student favourite (well, this student anyway): peanut butter and HP sauce.

Empty space in a lunchbox should be filled with:
chocolate
cake
fruit
vegetables
kitchen roll (to stop flavours mixing/clean paws/stop food rattling)
mini sauce pots
pork pie
etc

I always do the kitchen roll thing. Well I've popped a few grapes in. Need larger lunch box.

Tomorrow it will be 2 x crushed walnut & marmite, 1 x brie & grapes.

A certain forum member told me earlier that these are all "la-di-da" sandwiches.

So what!?
A plain cheese or ham sandwich without a vegetable of some sort is boring.

It's not a question of class, it's one of taste.

Brie and grapes wont break the bank.

I was jesting  :)
I agree: the only way I'll keep making my own lunches (and thus economise) is to ensure that my creations are consistently very nom indeed.

It depends.  Sometimes I'll have a variety, one plane cheese, one cheese with pickle, one cheese with ham.

It's not a problem today, it's Friday, so it's pub-lunch day.

I nearly always have plain cheese.  It saves me having to think.  So do the winkies.  otoh wheras I get 2-4 bits of fruit (depending) they get fruit and/or veg, and one or more of: yoghurt, cake bar, cakey stuff, bics, more fruit/veg.

I recall that when I had a packed lunch almost daily(thanks Marj  :-* ),before I metamorphed into a suit & worked on the tools, there was always that slightly exciting feeling of anticipation just before opening the lid,as I wondered what was for dinner :D

And what is your routine: when do you make them, to avoid going "ah, bugger it, I'll just buy lunch tomorrow".
I make up my week's supply, at 6 sandwiches per day, on a Sunday morning and stuff 'em all in the fridge together with the allocated two pieces of fruit per day.  Monday and Tuesday's will be fillings with a shortish shelf life once opened (like black pudding).  Wednesday to Friday is usually cheese.  MrsLurker is appalled by this, but it hasn't killed me yet. :)

I can understand why Mrs Lurker is appalled.  Black pudding sandwiches should only be eaten hot, with freshly fried pudding...

They were nice  :) with walnuts - I may need to adjust the marmite slightly; always a difficult call.

Mamite and walnuts were my Grandma's recipe. She started it - I think she was at a loss what to put in vegetarian sandwiches for my mother.
