A children's picture book about car safety, road safety and the highway code.

Harey, the hare-brained rabbit, and his friends go driving their cars, but he does not obey the highway code. He has to be persuaded to wear his safety belt after he has driven out of his garage straight into tree. He then drives out of the drive onto the road without looking where he is going, drives on the pavement and fails to stop at red traffic lights where he knocks down Pillow the parrot on the pelican crossing.

"It was a warm, sunny cycling morning"

...

"why haven’t you any lights on your bicycle?"

...

"Hedley Griffin has asserted his rights to be identified as a complete and utter f***wit under the Ignorance, Stupidity and Downright Wrong Act 1988"

Q: By what percentage can a cycle helmet reduce the risk of a head injury?
A: Up to 85%

really?

Quote
Q: How many deaths from cycling accidents involve a head injury?
A: three quarters

Even if this is true, it doesn't have any bearing on how useful a helmet is.

I got those questions wrong and all the others right. Go figure.

Should we all click on the 'write to us' linky on the bottom right of the dangerspot homepage http://www.dangerspot.co.uk/childsafetyeducation.htm (http://www.dangerspot.co.uk/childsafetyeducation.htm) and mailbomb these disinformation merchants?
Shouldn't Harey check his tyres and brakes before haring out?
I note Child Accident Prevention Week coincides with Bike Week...

It probably is true, since few people die of a broken collarbone.  Likewise, most people die in hospital.

I know the boss of CAPT.  I shall be having words.... >:(

To give them credit, when the DfT published the infamous 'whack kids without helmets' game, CAPT supported CTC in getting the game pulled.

And as the strapline is 'preventing accidents', maybe some mention of cycle training might be more positive than helmet promotion?

He cycled out the drive without stopping and looking where he was going.

Hey, it's not just cycling.

Child safety awareness books to be published (http://www.dangerspot.co.uk/stories.htm)

There's danger at the seaside, at home, skiing, kite-flying - just about anywhere you'd care to shake a stick at.

Did I just say shake a stick?

Actually - taken together, those synopses are starting to sound (a) sadisitic and (b) self-defeating, in that it's always Harey who gets hurt (ergo, the damage can't be *that* bad, or he'd be dead  :demon:)
