During the week, I bought a large amount of cubed mutton from the halal counter in Five Ways Tesco's.
Yesterday, I made a feee-yuuge mutton, sagwala and chana curry.  After the best effort of #1 son and myself, there is still over half of it left.
As I don't think that it would be much good as sandwich material for the coming working week, I guess we'll be eating it tonight.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Why not invite some friends round to help out? We could be there in about 5 hours I reckon.

Set meal for two from the Taste of Raj, who now accept online orders via Hungryhouse.
Prompt and excellent as always and all the better for being a rather rare treat due to our weight loss/healthy eating habits.
I've had meals from ToR for as long as I've lived here but there are no longer paradigms and aborigines on the menu.

Hungryhouse informs me there are 70 restaurants who will deliver to my address.
Oh dear!

We had leftovers from Friday's supper on Saturday night.
There still remain some: tandoori chicken wings, vegetable curry, pillau rice, chicken korma, lamb pasanda, a poppadum and saag aloo...

Five hours?  Sorry you'd be too late.

And more tonight.

Only the lamb pasanda and tandoori chicken wings remain.

We had the remains of Friday's Indian takeaway for lunch today, with some home-cooked rice; that's about 7 meal portions out of a 'Meal for Two....
... and I'm still too full to eat an evening meal!

We had cider infused pulled pork, made in the slow cooker.

Get one 3lb boneless pork shoulder, put 2 bay leaves, 6 garlic cloves peeled but left whole, 4 sage leaves, a peeled and chopped pear and a nectarine treated the same into the slow cooker. Place meat on top, pour over 1 can of cider (we only had Magners available). Switch slow cooker on to 2 and ignore for 6 hours. Remove meat, strain bits out of sauce and thicken sauce. Return meat to cooker, pour over sauce and leave for another half hour or so.

Remove meat, cut string and slough of the skin, then attempt to carve. Find that fine, delicate slices are not going to happen, so rip the meat into strips and chop roughly. Pour over the sauce and enjoy.

Serve with mash and veg...

Dirty pizza, red wine may be consumed too.

Mrs T is out on a girly weekend, so it's pizza and movie night.

I gave in to temptation and ordered a curry. I should have got myself in gear sooner and ordered it earlier, as they're heaving on a Saturday night and it's not due until about 10pm now :/

I will follow Wow's yellow lunch with an orange supper:
Salmon, sweet potatoes and carrots with oranges for afters.
I might cheat by adding some spinach...

Delia's vegetarian shepherd's pie, with the mash topping made of sweet potatoes instead of ordinary ones, with broccoli & cauliflower roasted with garlic & coriander seeds. Then mince pies with cream.

Leftover pizza, Mr. Kipling's bakewell slices, a bag of beef crisps.  Lots of tea.  Excellent.
Milk please, no sugar.

Special (mostly) Offer and Use Stuff Up Curry.

Since the SmallestCub has decided that he might get on with chicken curry (previously he only liked prawn curry) and the EldestCub wanted to invite a friend for tea, I decided it was worth defrosting the 2 large chicken breasts that I impulse bought with the online shopping, because they were on 'flash sale' and down from 4 quid to 75p, a couple of weeks ago and stuck in the freezer so we had a chicken curry and a veg curry and basmati, nan bread,  with assorted 'indian snacks' also from the freezer, some raita and popadoms and mango chutney.

And the basmati/naan bread/cauliflower/mushrooms/onions/frozen peas/Pataks cheat-y curry/cheat-y raita were all bought on special at some point, the spinach was the last bit of a bag that's been rattling round in the freezer for ages and the peppers needed eating up.

The popadpms, from the corner shop this morning, might actually have been the most expensive bit of the meal!

Sounds great!
Eating cheaply is easy if:
You have enough money to buy food in advance
You have a freezer and electricity to run it
You have fridge and space & electricity for it
I am rich enough to eat cheaply. I am lucky.

The other important factor is time.  Tuesday is a school day I always have the boys and finish work in time for the school run and we don't have to be out again quickly, so is usually a relatively 'proper' cooking day.

(Monday is always beans-on/and-toast day because of the sprint to get back to school for karate, and the alternate Wednesdays they're with me is official 'takeaway tea' day, with them taking turns to pick what sort, because there's so little time between finishing work and bedtime!)

I never mentioned fuel and its cost either.
Raw potatoes are £1.25 for 2.5kg at Sainsbury's. That's a lot of food if you can cook it...
