Hugh F-W recipe from the Gruaniad back in September.

Slow-cooked aromatic shoulder of pork

Not cooked anything at gas Mk 1/4 before.  Rather good though.

We had sausages, spuds & veg.

Linda McCartney did the sausages (well, her minions, I suppose).

But it was the last of the season's spuds, celery and runner beans.  Nomnom and, furthermore, nom.

Halloumi was not home-made, either, but it was darned good :)
Getting there...

We got cheese-shamed by the vegans in Covent Gdn yesterday.  This evening my fabulous cohab made entirely vegan dinner.  Soy yoghurt is very nearly as good as dairy yoghurt in curry.

Yeah.  And I stopped and talked to them for ten whole minutes without:

(a) eating any of their odd-looking cheese substitute
(b) telling them about Julian and the quail-nomming parties
(c) asking them what they think about shooting your own wild food

Nigella's Spanish chicken with chorizo and potatoes. Saw her do it on the telly last week and managed to take my eyes off her heaving bosom long enough to note down the recipe. Very tasty indeed. We actually had it for dinner last night, but there's loads left over so we're having it again tonight.

I'm assuming it's much the same as Scouse, the stew from which Liverpudlians get their nickname, aka Lobscouse.

This soup from HFW is good as well (though I've only done the soup, not the bread!).

I made salad:

Prawns, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, olives in chilli and garlic, couscous, carrots, marinated artichoke hearts, spring onions, encona west Indian hot pepper sauce, olive oil, balsamic vinegar.

For dessert I had half a punnet of grapes, a banana, some walnuts, three medjool dates, with yoghurt.

I feel very fat.

We ate out, at the Magpie. Fish and chips, veggie shepherds pie, mushy peas, white wine, hot cider, nice cup of tea, ice cream and jelly with jelly babies. Not all for me, I should probably point out. Then back to the house for more wine, tea and cake.  I might go pop.

Today is pension day so we had a pre dinner amontilado then a nice steak with roasted vegetables washed down by a bottle of Rioja Reserva.  Just about to pour us both a Drambuie and make another couple of expressos.

I should have posted yesterday - it was my turn and I made a lovely smoked haddock curry.

Grilled mustard pork chops, mashed potato, onion gravy and veg (sweetcorn and beans).

Apple and summer fruits crumble, with vanilla custard for afters.  The crumble topping has oats and muscavado sugar...  :P
