Has anyone been through Trowbridge recently?

It's always been a slightly odd place (allegedly the glue-sniffing capital of Britain), but someone has seen fit to erect a huge sign on the side of a house, as you leave town in the Westbury direction:

"SMOKING DURING PREGNANCY IS TANTAMOUNT TO MANSLAUGHTER".

I did a double-take.  Surely you need planning permission for something like that?

Only went to Trowbridge once.  Went to the Pump, the festival for those not in the know.  The beer tent bars were run by yocals and they just ignored all the rest of us and kept serving their yocal mates.   First and only fight I've ever seen at a festival ...

I try to avoid Trowbridge as much as is humanly possible.

What an unprepossessing dump for a county town.
Question everything, accept nothing.

I only go through Trowbridge to get to our depot in Westbury.  Doesn't look too bad from Westbury!

a mate of mine used to run the pie factory in Trowbridge.  Huge problems with vandalism, apparently.

Look out for the sign - it's quite..er...strident.

I will keep an eye out, thanks Roger.  I'm due to pay a visit sometime next week.

Was it spelt correctly though?  I grew up in Bradford on Avon which is a little too close to T'bridge.  I found this to be not far from the mark:

Trowbridge seems to "enjoy" an unusually high homicide rate too......
