Meanwhile, the email from the council tells me, the Women's tour is going to be in October, and one of the stages will start - and finish!* - in Walsall.

Err, Stonehaven. Stonehouse to Furryboottoon would be a very long stage indeed  ;D

What happened to Northern Ireland, don't they count or is Britain not Great without NI. 2 stages in each country?

I see today's route includes the Machynllech-Corris-Cross-Foxes-Dolgellau stretch familiar to many of us here, but then goes north of the Mawddach estuary to Barmouth. Anything to avoid having to pay the toll.

I don’t know for sure, but the event director was a very long term and close friend of someone who lived in Walsall, and who died late last year. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a nod in the friend’s direction.
