Carbon frames are a bit snappy, it seems, unless he was riding a Brompton 700c prototype.
Carbon fibre is pretty strong - if the forces applied are those that the item is designed for.
Carbon does not react well to impact or if the integrity has been compromised by scratches or even slight damage.

Shame. It was a cracking stage. Do they reprise it on Freeview Play?

I don't have Freeview Play but I shall cast it to the Chromecast from the Discoveryplus webpage (like I did when they cocked up and showed stage 1 on day 4) tomorrow to fill in the rest day.

Ganna time trialling over the gravel like a runaway locomotive. What a site. Ripped the peloton to pieces and set up the gains for his GC. A stage for the ages.

And Dan Martin saying he’d promised his wife he wouldn’t crash, and “cycling’s not worth the risk”. I wonder if ISN think he’s worth his contract after that.

Safe to say he didn't exactly appear to embrace the gravel challenge.  Good stage today.

So that was the easy side of Monte Zoncolan 'parently.  Anyone know what cassettes / low gears would be typical.

One of the riders (can't remember which one now ::-)) said he was going to use 34/32 as lowest gear for the Zoncolan stage

Fifteen stages so far and eleven have been won by riders who had never won a grand tour stage before. That includes Bernal who had never won an individual stage before.

It looked like the bloke who came second needed a lower gear.

Too many riders trying to get in the break in a crosswind. Not nice!
Good decision by race director to stop the race temporarily, let ambulances work and sort everything out. There would not have been the minimum medical cover to resume racing. It was said to be unprecedented, but The Tour director did similar well into a stage for the same reason some years ago.

I did the climb just before the stage on the turbo with a taxc film. Its the ascent from the other side and pitches up earlier and, I think more sustained, although it doesn't top out at quite as high a gradient. 21.5% was as much as I saw.
I used a 28 small ring and 36 on the cassette, so super sub compact. 260 watts average or there about got me up at 7.9 kph. Im around 80 kilos.  It's a heck of a slope.
I think most fo the racers were using more like a 1:1 ratio or bigger. Sean Kelly was talking about racing up it during the stage and I thought he said he used a 41 inner ring back then. Holy crap!
Massive respect for Tratnik there. He in no way looks like a climber and I thought he would blow long before he did. He was very philosophical in the post race interview too.

So there was a loss of live footage, due to aircraft not flying.  Do they not have the means of recording & broadcast later.   ???  Perhaps highlights are relatively 'unimportant'.
