Etrex 32x can't authenticate maps
« on: 25 May, 2021, 02:59:02 pm »
Just updated maps for the first time on a pre-loaded micro SD card and I'm now getting the above message. If I click through the message (which comes up twice) I can open the map screen and the map displays. It looks OK but is it?

Anyone else had this problem?

I've been on the wrong end of a million or so Garmin glitches over the years so I'm no longer surprised at this kind of thing - just a bit weary of them.

What maps?  I  use  open street  map http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/
suggest  you try a different  SD card  - they are not  all the same plus wear out.
IIRC I had a similar problem that  was SD card related

Hi Aidan. Thanks for the reply.

Map preloaded on SD card is OS Great Britain 1:50k and was bought with the device from a reputable dealer. I've only had it for a year so shouldn't have worn out.

Ticket raised with Garmin on 25th May. Had a couple of emails from them but nothing useful in them.

Garmin would like me to 'rate my support interaction' despite them doing sweet FA to resolve the problem.  ???

Now wondering if the update you applied downloaded a map in Unicode format?  Not all Garmins support Unicode.

Update was from Garmin Express so would expect that the upload would be in correct format.
Surely Garmin can't be so incompetent to provide updates that won't work on their hardware can they? Wouldn't surprise me though.

Seven weeks after reporting the problem to Garmin they have provided a fix - update to a new version of Garmin Express and reinstall all maps. It must be a tweak in Garmin Express that fixed it as they had previously asked me to try this with the old version and that didn't work.

The reinstall took five+ hours. Must upgrade our internet connection.
