Author Topic: Brazier's Run 100 (and 50) - 28-FEB-2009 (Being made into DIY 200)  (Read 6112 times)

Planning on making this ride into a DIY200 again (although I haven't asked permission from the organiser yet so it's far from 100%, he was happy to do it last year although that doesn't guarantee he'll want to do it again this year).

Same plan as last year although I may start/go via Clapham if my friend wants to do it again.

5am start in Clapham/Putney gives 4 hours to do the 75km to the start via Broxbourne for the 9am start. Do the 100km ride (it's one of my favourites) and then back to Broxbourne for a final receipt at about 210km. Then either a 35km ride home or a short pootle down the road to Cheshunt for the train back to Liverpool St and a ride across London to get home.

Boo.

Kieron agreed to me DIYing it again.

Entry in, haven't got my route sorted with Andy yet but then it'll be at least 215km so there won't be a problem. Happy to risk just sending off a signed DIY form of:-

Putney, Cheshunt (the Tesco by the B198 roundabout on the B176), Start/Finish of Audax in Ugley, Broxbourne comes out as 111km

Cycling home will be a 256km day.

Weather looking good but there's plenty of time for that to change. Why do I sign myself up for things that mean a 5am start?

Routesheet looks the same as last year, now where did I put the GPS route...

Will the usual faces be there?

We're not doing it this year.

I'm testing next month's WARTY, although since we lunch at High Roding I think our paths may cross.

I will be there, and have the GPS route if anyone wants it.

My non-route cycling will involve [home to Tottenaham Hale (4km) + Elsenham to Ugley (2km)]*2

I'll be there.  An extra 30K at each end should make it a nice Century.

The "nice" is up for debate when my alarm clock goes off on Saturday morning, though.

Ok, friend can't make it so I'll be on my own.

Looks like I can't get handlebars sorted in time (shame as tri-bars are quite useful for this ride).

No more takers for the 5am start in Putney I take it? It's only 75km to the start (and 75km back home afterwards).

I'd be interested in the GPS route.  I had a go at mapping it but may have gone a bit wrong in the 2nd half.

ps. I've seen very few links to bikely, bikehike routes on yacf.  Is it seen as bad form to post routes?  Perhaps somebody who considers using a GPS to be cheating could be drawn into clicking the link and then hate themselves for ever?

It's polite to ask permission from the organiser before posting a link to his route.

I don't use anyone else's GPX as I like to go through the trouble of plotting it myself as it gives me some familiarity with the route, and what it looks like on a map, and allows me to spot if there are any errors on the routesheet.

P.S. The bit from Hatfield Broad Oak back to the B183 is one of my favourite bits of road. I don't know why but it possesses some magical property that makes it feel utterly effortless to cycle along and, no, it's not downhill.

I'm doing the 106km ride with yellow-ceitidh. Where abouts in Henham is the HQ? Is there parking there?

It's not quite in Henham.  The route-sheet mentioned North Hall Road, which shows up on Google Maps as a little lane running between the M11 and the railway line.  That's where I'm heading, anyway!

It sounds like there are places to park along the lane.

The hut is: 51.941117,0.222216 (just cut and paste that into google maps). Yes, it's the one up a little muddy track. Don't drive up there!

There are 5 other club huts for cycling clubs within half a mile so don't get confused or assume that it's a different one just because you can see a cyclist outside it.

Link to google maps

Park on the grass verges on the road that goes under the M11, there's loads of space. No closer than the grass triangle by North Hall Road.

Thanks GB, that'll be just down the road from the Comrades Hut and just before the nasty bend under the railway bridge then.

Yup, and directly over the road from it is the Shaftesbury CC hut which is where the Golden Tints and Essex Lanes Springtime rides start from.

Enjoy the KVR too.

Currently beer in hand, GPS unprogrammed, bike unfettled and watching the rugby.

Just got back.  Nice day for a ride.  The Essex countryside is definitely rolling, but doesn't quite cross the line into hilly, which is probably a good thing for my first fixed Audax.

Somehow, I managed to leave my card on the grass outside the huts at lunchtime.  Still not sure how, but I guess it was underneath my bar-bag while I was repacking it.  Was very relieved to find it still there when I reached the finish.
