I'm not sure yet if I will do LEL or MGM

MGM?

Madrid - Gijon - Madrid

It's possible to do both, Richard Leon has done this in 2005.

I would do the LEL. If it wasn't the same weekend as the Mersey 24.
Again! ???
I'm considering helping at Gamlingay, but not sure yet.

I suppose now would be a good time to mention the fact that I have entered this ride :o

Good for you!  You'll be fine, much younger than the average rider.   ;)

I reckon that if you get your SR in this year, then another next year, you'll do it OK.
I think you'll really enjoy LEL.

:)  I will do my best, better get some more rides in, have a 200 soon.  Need to sort out a 300 fairly swiftly and move on from there.  I think I am getting faster, more confident and much more comfortable on the bike.  Trauma to my nether regions is now negligible so things are looking up.

Plenty of yacf forumers to ride LEL 2009. Brilliant.

So far I have the entry form has been printed out and put aside the Entry fee.

I have also devised a training plan:
January  09: club runs*
February 09: club runs
March 09: club runs + Lune RCC Reliability Ride (75miles)
April 09: club runs + The Cambrian + Elenith
May 09: club Runs + Fred Whitton Challenge + Dales Grimpeur
June 09: More club runs
18-21 June 09: Ardechoise Meridionale-Allier (600k)
July 09: club runs
26-31 July 09: LEL 2009

* Club runs vary between 60 and 85 miles in distance

SR finished this weekend hopefully and possibly a second SR (one geared; one fixed).
Keep RRTY going (including some AAA rated 100s made into DIY 200s although I do lose the AAA points then)

First draft of plan:-

Jul: DIY 600 including the Flattest Possible 300
Aug: Might ride to or from the Mildenhall Rally 300 to make it into a 400
Sep: Up The Downs 200
Oct: Golden Tints 200
Nov: DIY 200 early in the month
Dec: DIY 200 late in the month
Jan: Poor Student?
Feb: Marlborough Connection?
Mar: As many Henham/Ugley rides as I can do and The Dean
Apr: Elenith
May: BCM
June: Midland Super Grimpeur 300 maybe?
July: LEL
Aug: give bikes away or chop them into tiny pieces

I like that last bit :D

Looks like I ought to be making some plans then :-\

Apr: Elenith
May: BCM

Think about riding the Brevet Cymru as well - it'll be on as a calendar event next year.  Those three will be part of my training too.

Turn up
Cycle to Dalkeith
Turn bike around
Cycle back again

I may do a 200 during the preceeding fortnight, it depends if I get a weekend off; possibly a 300 and 400/600 in April/May, it'll depend (just like any other year in fact).

Do the Scenic version.  I'm informed it'll be "unrelenting".

I shall stick to the traditional route.  I learned my lesson last year.  ::-)

My plan:

ride lots.

I am currently thinking about my 2 weeks ahead from now ride.  Bridge too Far?

To be fair the rides up until the start of 2009 are just my current RRTY plans.

The Dean and the Elenith are rides I want to do again next year. The BCM eluded me this year as I had a wedding to go to instead. The rest are just to fill up the monthly slot and stop me slogging up to Cambridge and back on a DIY.

All this talk of training plans brings to mind the young Japanese male and female riders on LEL 2005.  It was their first bike ride over 100km IIRC.

From memory they finished; two girls and a chap.  As you'd expect, they suffered a bit (but then again, so did I - it being my first year of AUK and not having ridden beyond 400km) but appeared happy enough every time I crossed their path.  They were celebrities, getting interviewed for local newspapers and the like.

They were probably Game Show researchers looking into the possibility of making a really sadistic series based upon the concept of Audax.

For the rest of this year I think  I will ride my bike quite a lot.Do some 200s maybe a 300k,try some back to back rides ie a 200 on sat then  a100k on sun. Also I will practice looking in the mirror, trying to look calm but determined, and less like a scared bunny rabbit !

What you lack in physical fitness you have to make up for in mental strength and grim determination.

I know I'm going to need a bit of the last two this weekend as I'm not in the best shape at the moment.

Here's the "suggested training pattern" from the http://www.londonedinburghlondon.co.uk/ website:-

January: 2x 100km events
February: 1x 100km 1x 200km
March 2x 200km
April 1x 300km, 1x 400km
May 1x200km 1x 600km
June 2x 200km, 1x600km
July: 1x 200km + LEL 1400km

A friend of mine is interested in LEL. His longest ride to date is 193km and he won't be starting "training" properly until October.

I think I could nearly do that schedule if I do the 200ks as perms or diy rides.100k is a normal club ride anyway.Delete the 100 and 200k rides ,and it does not look quite as intimidating!
