Alex FR30 rim without eyelets - decent rim?
« on: 26 April, 2017, 03:09:34 pm »
Picked up a cheap 36h Deore hub wheel with what the shop told me is an unbadged FR30 rim - it looks just like an FR30 profile but lacks eyelets (and any stickers) that the FR30 images I am finding on google have

Anyone got a rim like this (ie is it really an FR30 sans eyelets) ? Is it decently tough?

I never get hung up on eyelets or the lack of them.   I've seen the start of cracks in eyeletted rims but have never actually had a rim fail due to anything other than brake wear.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

thanks rogerzilla

the rim is being built in to the rear wheel of a lightweight off road kiddiback tandem running 2.4" wide tyres and disc brakes (so plenty of shock resistance but nothing to wear out). FWIW I suspect the rim to be an OEM E-bike rim so it should be decently strong

if it isnt up to the job it should show quite quickly I reckon, if that happens I will have to go to something like an MTX31
