Ben, you may find this very hard to believe, but people who are vegetarian, let alone vegan, quite often find the smell of raw or cooked meat revolting. I'm not currently vegetarian, I have been so in the past and I can assure you that it is possible for a person's tastes to change and really, truly not like meat.

It's possible for someone to have 6 fingers. Anne Boleyn did. Most people don't.

Catherine Deneuve defends men's 'right to hit on' women

French actress Catherine Deneuve has said that men should be "free to hit on" women.

She is one of 100 well-known French women who wrote an open letter, warning about a new "puritanism" sparked by recent sexual harassment scandals.

The letter by French women writers, performers and academics was published in France's Le Monde newspaper on Tuesday.

"Men have been punished summarily, forced out of their jobs when all they did was touch someone's knee or try to steal a kiss," it said.

"Rape is a crime, but trying to seduce someone, even persistently or clumsily, is not - and nor is men being gentlemanly a chauvinist attack."

The authors argued that there was a new "puritanism" afoot in the world.

They said that while it was legitimate and necessary to speak out against the abuse of power by some men, the constant denunciations have spiralled out of control.

According to the writers, this is creating a public mood in which women are seen as powerless, as perpetual victims.

"As women we do not recognise ourselves in this feminism, which beyond denouncing the abuse of power, takes on a hatred of men and of sexuality."

The signatories – who included a porn star-turned-agony aunt – claimed they were defending sexual freedom, for which “the liberty to seduce and importune was essential”.

Deneuve has made no secret of her annoyance at social media campaigns to shame men accused of harassing women.

“I don’t think it is the right method to change things, it is excessive,” she said last year, referring to the #MeToo hashtag. “After ‘calling out your pig’ what are we going to have, ‘call our your whore’?”

“Instead of helping women this frenzy to send these (male chauvinist) ‘pigs’ to the abattoir actually helps the enemies of sexual liberty – religious extremists and the worst sort of reactionaries,” the collective of women who signed the letter said.

“As women we do not recognise ourselves in this feminism, which beyond denouncing the abuse of power takes on a hatred of men and of sexuality.”

They insisted that women were “sufficiently aware that the sexual urge is by its nature wild and aggressive. But we are also clear-eyed enough not to confuse an awkward attempt to pick someone up with a sexual attack.”

Make sure he is offered jobs, but just at the edge of his skill set (though I don't think there are any jobs other than politician that require you to be a callous bastard) so that he has hope of getting out of his situation. there is nothing as soul destroying as unrequited hope.

Those militant vegans that took issue with a restaurant that gave them meat. Surely if they didn't order and thus presumably pay for meat and thus didn't support its industry, but got it, they ended up with the best of both worlds? (is that too un-PC?)

Next time you have some dinner and the serving includes some axle grease and a small serving of horse manure (but you didn't order either), don't complain. You got something you didn't order, but as long as you didn't have to pay for it, that's fine, yes?

Not really because they're not food. Meat is food.  Would have thought that was obvious...

What about sheeps eyes and tripe. they are food.
Or lentils and beetroot, they're good for you
Or some Surströmming - swedish fermented herring, that's food.

You have the right to not have food you  have not ordered, especially if you have specifically requested not to have it.

I can honestly say it was  a positive experience.  I am a woodburner operative myself and grow my own fuel, mostly chestnut, which I have to split.  Unfortunately some logs are knotty and it was useful to see how a proper lumberjack tackles those issues.

Not really because they're not food. Meat is food.  Would have thought that was obvious...

Were you to ask any dung beetle I think you'd find that it would regard horse-shit as food and I believe there are whole families of bacteria that just love to sit down to a delicious meal of long chain hydrocarbons such as are found in axle grease. Ah yes; here's one, cereus DQ01.  I doubt either of those would regard meat as food.
