Tumble drier won't turn with heavy load
« on: 28 March, 2018, 02:32:01 pm »
A month or so back I replaced a broken drive belt on a Zanussi tumble dryer. Span it up and all was good. The owner mentioned the other day that it will only work with light loads. If she puts a slack handful of clothes in it it it's fine. A towel is too much.  Any ideas as to what has broken/I have busted to give these symptoms?  The original belt breakage was due to a curtain ring jamming between the drum and the tub.

Are you certain that when you replaced the drive belt you routed it correctly (correct side of tension pulley).

I made this mistake once, the drum would turn under a light load, but with a heavy load the belt slipped.

I'm pretty sure it is. It was a struggle to pull the spring into place once I had the belt fitted and from memory the grooves in the belt match the grooves in the pulley.

Would a shonky starter capacitor give these symptoms?
