My Brompton is faster than a train

So every now and then I take it into my head to ride home from work (Islington to North Herts). It's not too bad a run, even if you do have to fight your way through the traffic at times in the first part. And some good views over the rolling Hertfordshire countryside. I try not to remember that the club's London chain gang does it in close to half the time I've sometimes taken :-[

Tonight, I got home to find that the problem with overhead lines at Alexandra Palace meant that everyone else was still in London. And a Brompton is not exactly the fastest machine over the distance. I've never beaten a train over 37 miles before

I have a watch that's right twice a day.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

This reminds me rather of Gordy (formerly OTP) getting stranded in Athens as a result of an Icelandic volcano grounding most European flights. He had a bike and ISTR that it played a key role in getting him home for the start of his school term.
