In Waitrose meat counter tonight, there was roughly 25% of a fillet. It had a reduced sticker on in. If I was to be scrupulously honest I could probably see that the £43/kg had been reduced to £26/kg, but the 2 was in marker pen and not exceptionally clear. So, I ask the assistant how much. £6/kg quoth she.

Tonight I haz fillet steak  ;D  (with a gratin dauphinoise and beans)

The laundry day of the larder. AKA I've run out of food. Presciently, my wife arranged to be in posh restaurant with her mother prior to an evening at the opera. Me, I'm mixing a can of tuna with some pasta, a tin of butter beans, some frozen peas, lightly sauteed onions, a handful of grated cheese, a spoon of mayonnaise, and a generous helping of black pepper. It wasn't half bad. I should probably go to the shops. I'm now down to the stuff that arrived in Christmas hampers twenty years ago.

Had 'lunch' so late that supper hasn't happened yet.
The cupboards and fridge are full.
Hope opened tin of cat food stays in fridge...

Wife is away in Sweden this week.

Yesterday I dug out some chicken thighs from the freezer, a bottle of not very good Beaujolais.  I had all the rest of the ingredients to hand and now I have enough coq-au-vin that I don't need to cook for myself again until Friday.

My sister very kindly provided my with some spice blends and a cook book from thespicery.com for my birthday. I still have some of the Aloo Gobi I made on Tuesday and just have to decide what I am having with it as the Chicken curry only lasted two meals.

It's not tonight, but it was the other night. I was hungry. I had some steak. And I had some cauliflower cheese. So I sliced up the steak, layered it on the cauliflower cheese and made it into a sandwich.

Awesome.

Bucket stew: beef, beans, scorned celery sticks, tinned tomatoes, pathetic parsnip, onion, garlic + seasoning boiled to DETH for 6 hours.
Microwave mash: potato, carrot, milk and oil - real comfort baby food.

Beef, Guinness, and pearl barley stew, spring onion and savoy cabbage mash, pint of export stout to wash it down, apple and raspberry crumble and ice cream to finish.

Got the night to myself as my wife has run off to foreign again, so I have a chicken and white wine in the slow cooker with loadsa herbs, garlic, and veg (swede, carrot, and leek). Been on since lunch time. If it tastes as good as it smells. Both cats are already sitting at the table with their napkins ready. I guess I have supper guests.

It was roast chicken tonight. And I made an ox cheek ragu and tarragon chicken for the freezer.

Just me and the boy tonight so take away pizza I think.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I made some leek soup. I mean using real leeks, etc. Home made soup is so simple.

Roast lamb, with lots of garlic, dauphinois potatoes (moar garlic!) & petit pois,  washed down with a very pleasant red.   :P

There is enough for another meal as well, the problems of cooking for one.

It's just me and the fireworks (I was going to wander up to the local show but I'd just warmed up after a soggy ride home and couldn't be bothered, but now I've noticed that I have the perfect view from my office window, plus it's warm and there's nice beer). Anyway, I'm proving a spelt and pecan loaf which I shall duly bake and slice up, load with cheese, tomato, oregano and grill until suitably awesome.

Tonight I'm thinking of getting some mean soup. But since I can't cook to save my life I'm going to have to go out. Never eat restaurant soup if you can make your own.

Bucket stew.
Beans have been soaked and boiled for 10 minutes. Now been added to simmering diced beef and tinned tomatoes.

Will add seasoning and other vegetables later but my legs need a rest.

Not planning to eat till 9pm.
