No, I think there are better places to ask questions and find out stuff.

It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

Typing "Audax" into Safari search bar, I get two results.
Audax.co.uk
Audax Forum

On Google, YACF is fifth on the list behind three pages from Aukweb.net ( Front page, Calendar and FAQs ) and the Wikipedia page.

Anyone searching for Audax will get the official site first.

YACF is close to the top of the list at 5th and the first Forum found by Google.

I don't think YACF has anything to worry about.

What comes up if you put YACF in?
I did that and I came up with some of the historical background as the second result. That history explains a lot of the other attitudes that come bundled with the YACF brand, which don't need to coincide with the Audax brand.
How easy is it for interested newbies to disentangle the two?

Audax UK is there but no sign of YACF.

Marcus JB's  blog gets a hit too.

And if you search for Audax Video, you get my Portmahomack 400 video at number 6. Which is good for the National 400, as it follows a similar route. The Australian one has good production values that we'd like to incorporate into future projects.

Monotony.

Buy bus shelters to put on Park Lane.

Wouldn't you need more evocative Audax locations such as Taunton Deane Services, Yad Moss.....?

I'm new to the whole scene and out of all the cycling forums around (i'm a member of some) this is the forum I chose to ask questions because it has the most knowledge with down to earth people. It is quite simply the best for long distance riding in the uk. Cheers

But like the AUK board, that is a closed group - you need to request access to view it, and before you even get that far you need to know it exists...

Not quite. Any FB member can read the group posts. You have to join to contribute. There's also a page which simply points at the group.

I clearly don't know how to work Facebook. How do I fix it so that I can easily access AUK's FB page without it appearing on my own timeline? That way I can choose when I want to read the latest bum cream or bus shelter news.

Not quite what you were asking, but you can also be a member of the group but not have it fill your timeline. Once you're in, click on the drop down menu in the top right of a post in your timeline, and select "unfollow audax uk". You'll still be in the group but it will not appear in your timeline.

Or Sony!

Has anyone created an Audax game? Endless roads, bus shelters, malign weather - what's not to like?

You are in a maze of twisty flat droves, all alike.

Make of it what you will but for a year or so, an interview I gave to BikeRadar in 2012 was something like hit #4 when Googling 'Audax', something I found hugely illuminating.

I don't recall if I was ahead of aukweb.net but YACF was toast. Not that Audax is competitive!

I think search rankings can be a very subjective thing - ie they can produce whatever result you want if you skew the search term appropriately. Simply Googling "Cycling" reveals that neither YACF nor Audax feature in the first 20 or 30 pages, which suggests to me that both are small subsets of the panoply of cycling and cyclists! I can't believe that anyone would seriously Google "long distance cycling" while idly speculating about the existence of a group of such cyclists, but perhaps I'm just not nerdy enough. However, Googling "cycling forums" in an effort to source information is quite a likely search - and doing that brings up YACF on page 1 (in 9th place), YACF - Audax board on page 2, and Aukweb doesn't appear in the first 20 pages.

The fact is that YACF has been very useful and relevant to Audax, and I believe it still is, but both communities are pretty small.

But then you're unlikely to google 'audax' if you've never heard of it. More likely to use 'long distance cycling' if you enjoy cycling long distances and want to find out more?

That distant landscape looks like someone has crumpled their route-sheet, I've heard that can happen.

Re the 10 or so posts above,

What one person gets in google isn't the same as what someone else gets!
Google uses its (ie our) data and technology to work out what sites you've visited and tries to give you more of what you like.

This explains it here
