I have it and never used it. My daughter has it now as I'm pretty much FF, with heavy, quality, zoom glass.
However to misquote, the best lens is the one that you have with you. I've had plastic zooms in the past and they have got the job done. The original 55-200mm DX stands out in this respect.
I've got the 18-300mm for DX and it is mediocre, but for the Olympics and Paralympics, the only choice.
Unpleasantness can be ameliorated by low cost.
