She really doesn't get it, does she? Her whole demeanour is as if she is wiping something nasty off her shoe.

Jill Douglas on the other hand is doing a great job.

She's more animated when the womens' cycling is on.

I think you'll find she was Champion Lady Rider in 1990, but "lady golfer" is one that I haven't heard before.

Claire Balding lives on my brother's road in West London.

Until I met her I never even realised she ate sushi off the barber shop floor.

Correct, and her father is Toby Balding, also ex jockey and retired racehorse trainer -  she usually covers the racing on BBC

Yes, I don't like her. She struggles covering anything other than horse-related.

How good do you think Phil Liggett would be covering Horse Trials then ;D

But he isn't. She is supposed to be covering everything. She could at least try to sound interested if it has less than 4 legs.

I'm not sure why Clare Balding's sexuality would have anything to do with her interest, or otherwise, in cycling  >:(

I think she's doing a good job, for what it's worth, and if  we're going to be critical of the 'generic' presenters, I think we'd have a much better time discussing the truly awful and cringe making Adrian Childs, whose trousers are much too tight in my humble opinion

(though, of course, his trousers and the tightness thereof would have nothing to do with his interest in cycling)   ;D

Speaking of other presenters... the best thing about Gabby Logan being out in Beijing for the Olympics is that she's not on R5 at the weekend.

Gabby is a fox.

I'm not sure why anyone would bother tuning into R5 though.........

It's actually  CHILES ... and he is a bit of a cyclist, he did a UK tour for the Business Lunch prog a couple of years ago and also did an epic charity ride, I think, last November linked to Children in Need.

(But I do agree he's crap as a presenter on the Olympics)

i think Chiles is an excellent presenter, and was impressed by his NooCAStle ride with Shearer.

HOWEVER he has a lot of work to do for cyclists to forgive him for the scraped knees question (interview with Nicole Cooke IIRC).

... but mainly football, let's be honest (even in July it's all they talk about).

When they do cover other sports, it is usually high quality. And I find their news coverage more palatable than Radio 4 (I need a low-brow-but-not-tabloid version of world events).

Well, I really like her and think she does a great job. Very engaging, and I think she's made good work of moving from the geegees over to other sports. So there.  :)
