I am familiar from work about file sharing and editing (one at a time) from a shared drive. But that's in a corporate setting.
I want to circulate a document for a whole series of people to edit, and just want to accumulate all the edits in the one document, rather than have copies spawned here, there and everywhere. The editors are a disparate bunch with all sorts of email addresses, browsers etc.
How can I implement this editing job?

This is what version control systems are for. People who don't work with code tend not to get on with them.
Starter for 10: Google documents.

Aye, Google Docs would seem a fair start. I've been using it recently to poke sticks at someone else's document, along with three or four others, and it seems to make a decent fist of preserving changes as edits so they can be accepted or rejected, allowing you to associate comments and discussion with individual bits of text, and of allowing simultaneous editing.

Thank you - it won't have to be sophisticated at all, just more of a cumulative list really.
