All Froome had to do was to sit on Quintana's wheel all the way to the time trial and then beat him by a couple
of minutes; or have I missed something?

Indeed, Froome missed something. He was caught sleeping at the start of the stage, just like his team. He's just plain lucky that the jury did bend the rules otherwise he would have to do without his teammates for the rest of the Vuelta. They were well and truly out of time.

God, that was a bit of a disaster!
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

Did his team forget to have their pasta meal the previous evening and missed breakfast?

As seen elsewhere, only those in green would have been starting tomorrow if the rules hadn't been bent: -

That would have been a real disaster, one team completely out, several others with only one man standing. And it would kill the Vuelta, Quintana having a nearly full team remaining so the jury has a point.

And how many times have we seen AC do that before?  NQ realised (planned) to 'roll over' CF and it worked.

I would have thought Sky would have stuck to the NQ like glue, even from the start.

indeed maybe complacency won the day ? or were team Sky just completely knackered after yesterday, whatever all credit to AC and NQ for setting race overall onfire and maybe burning all CF hopes of an overall win.
It was IMHO a complete Sky disaster, from what I saw majority of team just `gave up` after less than 20km. Let the initial break just build and build time gap
....after the `tarte de pommes`, and  fortified by a couple of shots of limoncellos,  I flew up the Col de Bavella whilst thunderstorms rolled around the peaks above

That was one of the best weekends of grand tour racing I've ever watched.

Nice gesture from Froomey at the finish line today.  He tried but couldn't drop Quintana.  If he hadn't lost that time on stage 15 and been in the lead by 20 odd seconds following the time trial he may have struggled to retain the lead.
