Title: Old Moulton wheels question?

Got hold of a Tatty bt all there Moulton MK2 Automatic. Needs a lot of tidying and some bits replacing. Tyre size is 16 X 1 1/4 (says 349).
Is that the same size as the Brompton wheels?
Can't get to it at the moment but want to put alloy wheels on it as opposed to the rusted steel ones. Does anybody know if the Moulton has narrow drop outs at the front like the Brommie? If it does I can just replace the wheels completely at the front and get a rear rim to keep the 2 speed Automatic hub gear. I have plans for it :evil:

Bromptons are 349 tyres.  Moultons use 100 mm front hubs, not 82 mm (or whatever Bromptons use).

Found out that the Brommie has a 28 spoke front hub so I can get an alloy rim for the front. Need to do a spoke count on the rear for the Auto' hub gears as I would really like to keep those.

Probably 28 spokes, although a (few) Moultons were fitted with 36 spoke wheels.

I think Moultons were more industry standard than Raleigh were.

Checked it today, 28 spokes both wheels so that makes it good for rims.

No reason not to build the front radial too - saves the faff of teeny crossings, looks great, and is strong as you like on a teeny wheel.  Not that I've done a couple of F-frame Moultons in the past, you understand... O:-)

I will be speaking to a guy locally who is on the Moulton sales and wants list as having loads of F framers restored and for sale, he also says he has a load of spare parts so I may be in the roses there!
