TDF 2024
« on: 25 October, 2023, 07:16:40 pm »
Route now announced, with a final in Nice as Paris was already booked.

Interestingly, the last day is a time trial - so no champagne swilling promenade followed by a sprint finish.

Cdl Bonette  is the highest point in TdF history.  ('parently been featured a few times)

Nice to have TdF end with a iTT.

ETA. 2802 metres;  includes the minor road C1 to reach the Cime de la Bonette (AFAIA).

The highest point of the D64 is the col, only the minor C1 goes higher. Are they riding on the C1?

Good to see they're 'putting the band back to gether', for Cav to go again.  Michael Mørkøv and Davide Ballerini joining Cav at Astana.

In an idle moment I decided to,have a look at this years Tour route. Blimey though but…

A first time start in Italy

Five separate visits to the various mountains of France.

And no finish along the Camps-Élysées. In fact, no Paris at all.

Oh and the last day will be a racing day because it’s an individual TT. The second of this year’s Tour.

Obviously we can’t say how much of a spectacle it will be, but the commissionaires have certainly set a route to give it a chance.
For every complex problem in the world, there is a simple and easily understood solution that’s wrong.

How can "paris be booked" Shirley they knew when the tDf would be coming through well in advance?

Cime de la Bonnette - one of Mrs P's favourites  ;D

Climbed that in 2022.  It was pretty brutal with a very strong wind which at one point lifted the front wheel of my bike off the road as I turned a sharp bend.  The final part of the road was strewn with fist-sized rocks I had to steer round.  At the top was crowd of bikers who kindly gave me a round of applause!   The descent was awesome but bloody freezing to start with.

I look forward to seeing Pogačar flying up it nonchalantly.

Betča he doesn't find rocks on the road.

Maybe some might be provided, on a strictly amateur basis.
