Cycing Celebrities
« on: 04 January, 2012, 10:09:08 pm »
I have just watched Billy Connolly's 'World Tour of Scotland'. On DVD from 1994. A Christmas present from Mrs Torslanda, she of the horned helmet and heavy metal breastplate. A nostalgic present which I enjoy because a) It's funny & b) It was one of the first programmes we watched when we got a TV licence

I had quite forgotten that it concludes one episode (a visit to Kelso) with the man oot on his wee bike*, riding resplendent in early 90s Castelli and Giro on roads that are completely empty.

Eric Clapton, I believe, also has a great love of the bicycle and let's not forget Ralf and Florian.

Any others?

*Not sure what but pretty certain it was Campag equipped and not a low end model either

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

Alexei Sayle lives in Bloomsbury. Will Self pootles round Covent Garden, he reported a funny road rage incident at Seven Dials.

John Snow cycles, including interviewing Cav while trying to keep with him.

Kate Silverton is also a cyclist - I remember her doing a fivelive program where the other guest were commenting on her presenting the show in full commuter cycling gear (she'd apparently arrived late)

I think Mat Baker could be included now after his rickshaw adventure for Childern in Need

I believe self-proclaimed BBC 'weather bird' Kaddy Lee-Preston is known to indulge in the odd Silly Bike Adventure from time to time.  I understand she frequents a friend's LBS...

Peredur ap Gwynedd, Welsh guitarist with appalling Aussie rave-rockers Pendulum is a recent convert.

I remember that ride Billy Connolly did... he reached the English border and stopped mid-road and turned back.  ;D

Mick Jagger.  there used to be a pic on the wall of Condor of him picking up a new road bike.

Deviants / Pink Fairies / Hawkwind guitarist / bassist Paul Rudolph had a racing licence and, so I heard, now runs a bike shop in Vancouver.

Paul Heaton is keen

Princess (or whatever she is now) Helena Bonham-Carter takes the kids to school on a trike, and good luck to her! :D

Elle MacPherson rides a bike.

James May and Richard Hammond ride bikes.  Jeremy Clarkson has been spotted on one round his estate, and in the local village.

I believe Alesha Dixon (I may have the wrong Nonlebrity here) rides a bike.

David Beckham owns a fixie, but seems to be a walkenger.

I've seen JPR Williams out and about around Cowbridge, and we sometimes ride past his house.

that reminds me, C+ (I think, might have been Cycling Active) did a "fluff" piece about bikes for heavier riders, which basically consisted of them going on a ride with 3 former rugby players.

He does cycle, yes. I follow him on Twitter and he regularly tweets his 60 to 100 mile rides.

Actor/comedian, Hugh Dennis is a bit of a roadie and I gather has popped up on the occasional Sportive.

I believe the model, Victoria Pendleton, is sometimes seen on a bike as well.
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?
