We went by my Scotrail app which said last train was 2300.

Bobb doesn't drink, and I can take it or leave it. At £4.50 for a cheese sandwich, I'd probably have to sell the house to buy alcohol!

2300 is the normal last train.
They go through to 0100 last departure to Edinburgh just now from queen street although I'm not certain if that's high level or low level. The journey time makes me think it's the high level station. Stay later for your next event!

Hope there's later trains because we've got the late athletics on Thursday.

Great day today at the games. Here are some of the clients I babysit as part of the photo team..

Includes Getty, AP and a couple of specialist shooting publications.

Managed to wrangle permission for the cyprus team to do a photo on the shotgun range after the medal ceremony for the womens trap and got dragged into having my picture taken with the silver medallist -

We had an amazing day at the morning and evening athletics sessions yesterday. It was a fantastic mixture of mainstream and para sport, and we got to see several medal ceremonies too.

We were sitting behind the hammer-throwing cage so we had a really good view of that. If I was watching athletics on the telly and hammer-throwing came on, I'd probably stop watching, but seeing it live was great. Really enjoyed the men's para discus too, in the "gammy leg" category. All of the contestants except one wore prosthetic legs, and you haven't felt awe until you've seen Nigerian Richard Okigbazi balancing on one leg to throw a discus.

One of the nicest things was how generous and appreciative the crowd were. Obviously the UK nations got the most support, but the whole crowd were genuinely cheering for other nations too - not in that "we're clapping politely because we have to" sort of way, but with genuine pleasure at seeing people do well. Biggest cheer of the day was for Scot Libby Clegg who got gold in women's para 100m, but pretty much everything was greeted with huge applause, and standing ovations for every gold winner's lap of honour.

Oh, and we got to do Mexican waves, and have a singalong to Sweet Caroline as well.  ;D

Very enjoyable evening tonight watching netball at the SECC. South Africa gubbed Wales, and Malawi gubbed Scotland. Malawi were sensational, particularly their GS. Both the Malawi and SA teams were excellent at creating space and Malawi in particular had excellent ball control skills.

That was our last trip to the Games. We're both feeling sad about that.

Also, I tweeted Daley Thompson this morning and he tweeted me back!

My time as a Clydesider is over. The last medals were won and presented, ancient traditions preserved (the 'chairing' of the winner of the Queen's Prize, complete with rifle, off the range and onto the podium) and then it was a wrap. Volunteers helping to 'tidy up' and 'recycle' games memorabilia - the fabric used for the advertising hoarding wraps is ideal for making laundry bags or similar. It was sad to say goodbye, but I leave with many memories and many of the non-agency photographers were hanging around to say goodbye too. The press manager was very proud of his conference room - he had managed to get through the whole games without needing to use it once.

And now back to work for a rest, with the insect bites, mild sunburn and aching feet.

Why have the male boxers stopped wearing headgear, but the female ones continued to wear them?

The statistics show that headgear for male boxers does not reduce, and may increase, the number of concussions in competition. There are no comparable statistics for females since there are far fewer female boxers. The boxing authorities chose not to use male statistics to change the rules for females.

Way to go- Jack Laugher , citizen of Ripon and former RGS pupil, wins Gold medal in the 1 m board.
(My tenuous claim to fame- I spotted him shopping in  Ripon  Sainsburys with his mum.)
A second helping of sporting greatness after the TDF passed through here  as well.

Nice pics and the games have been very lucky with the weather so far.

Seeing Eilish McColgan running in the 3000 metre steeplechase brought back memories of attending the CTC  Birthday rides at Ayr in 1992.
All of Scotland (and the rest of the U.K) was hoping for a gold medal from her mum,Liz , running 10000?m at the Barcelona Olympics.
Sadly, she faded in the hot weather (a Dundee childhood not being the best preparation for sunshine) and only finished 5th.

It would be easier if you knew which verse they were playing. The recording being used seems to launch straight into verse two for some reason.

Since  Flower of Scotland became King Alex's anthem in Caledoniashire.
As usual no-one actually asked the populace , it just happened.
Maybe we should ask for Ilkley Moor to be played when Yorkshire wins a medal.

It is, of course, no less a national anthem than 'Flower of Scotland' or 'Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau'. England seems to be different in that we can't decide between two competing anthems whereas the Scots and the Welsh seem to have coalesced around one.

For the last few Commonwealth Games, 'Land of Hope and Glory', has been played.

I ended up singing a bit of the real words and a bit of the Spitting Image ones.

Flower of Scotland has been used at Scottish sporting events for decades, long before there was a Scottish parliament, nothing to do with Alec Salmond.

I sung Flower of Scotland in the 70's at Murrayfield.

Anyway, tonight I was sat next to a Welsh lady who had the foresight to bring along some song sheets for Jerusalem, so I sang it. Apologies to those all around me, I never got those singing lessons I asked for.

It will be interesting to see whether "Flower of Scotland" is institutionalised as the official anthem if England gains its independence from Scotland.  Is there another anthem anywhere in the world (I don't speak many languages) which actually sneers at another nation?  I was a fan of the Corries, though more particularly of Roy Williamson, and I liked this song - but a National Anthem?  (I don't like "God Save The Queen", either!)
