"You must have a good camera"
« on: 13 November, 2008, 06:37:55 pm »
I lose count of how many times people say that when looking at my pics.

The implication being that to get a properly exposed, focussed and composed picture taken at precisely the right time you need a 'good camera', I suppose?
It is simpler than it looks.

The standard response is, "Well, Leonardo da Vinci had a good paintbrush".
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

Before I had it stolen, my standard response was, "yeah, it cost about 2 grand". >:(

And when you had it stolen, the response to the insurance company was " yeah, it cost about 3 grand "  ;D

ahem, it's wasn't insured. :'(

The kit I would now like does cost 3 grand. I don't have 3 grand.

Going back to 35mm film for a bit.

[edit] getting back to the OP, a good camera certainly won't make a good photographer, but a good photographer should be able to get results even with mediocre equipment.

Pick on something they do well and blame it on their tools

I guess it's just the first thing that pops in to people's heads....like when you say you are a keen cyclist and they go 'oh.........how many gears does your bike have?' rather than 'oh.......where do you like to ride to?'

Having said that it depends on the picture got that comment. If you showed me a pic that you took mid-ride on a sunny day in a forest and it didn't have horrid CAs in the branches I'd probably say the same thing!! ;D
