Title: Wigan win FA Cup
Post by: Wowbagger on 28 May, 2013, 07:03:55 pm
Sorry for the tardiness of this thread, but I've only just noticed. Beating Manchester City is quite an achievement. I haven't heard from my bro-in-law and nephew whether they went to the Final. I would imagine they did, card-carrying City supporters that they are.

I understand that they have been relegated as well. Is this the first time that the same club has achieved both accolades in the same season? I seem to remember Leicester City being relegated and losing the final a number of times.

I think if you 'google it' Wow you will find that Birmingham City recently won the second rate cup and got relegated in the same season but as far as I know this is the first time that the FA Cup winners have also been relegated in the same season.

I went to watch the match the Tuesday following teh FA Cup final with #2 son when Wigan played Arsenal at Arsenal.   Arsenal won confirming Wigan's relegation but of course Wigan got themselves relegated with lack of form over a season, not just on one night.

Ipswich Town also got into the UEFA cup for the 2002/2003 season despite having just been relegated from the Premiership. They got in because of their UEFA Fair Play ranking.
