had two(!) punctures on my runabout bike today and realised that tyres are well past their decommission date. couple of replacement tyres bought (michelin lithion 2 reinforced)

they ride surprisingly well, feel more like a racing tyre rather than a utility tyre and weigh a modest 300g (700c x 25, folding bead). i'll see how they last through the winter months - i hope the protection belt will do what it's supposed to do :)

A couple of Open Pro rims, because I'm sick of breaking wheels with low spoke counts so I've decided to resurrect my old 36-hole wheelset and attempt some rim transplants. :o
My Open Pros are 32 hole, & I haven't broken a wheel yet. Bent a rim wall* dropping my front wheel into a pothole once (instant blowout), & apart from that the wheel was more or less OK. A touch of truing. LBS said rim wasn't too bad to straighten, & did it. The spokes are all still fine.

I managed to trash my last set of OP rims pretty quickly, so I've gone for the fancy CD ones this time to see whether they're any longer lasting. I never did break any spokes on them, though, and they never seemed to go out of true (unlike the 24-spoke cheapy wheel I was using until recently).

CD don't last significantly longer than plain rims. The brakes will wear the black anodising off fairly quickly, and after that they are just the same.
If you are having problems with rim wear, look at changing the brake blocks you use - some pick up lumps of grit or fragments of metal much more easily than others. I use koolstop.

A pair of Shimano MT91s in size 46.  The 45's that turned up last week were a bit too snug, so will go back to CRC.

For once a future purchase, I have just discovered that the Garmin Explore 1000 is now available. I am due an overnight in Sheffield on Wednesday so I shall visit Evans and let them liberate the last of my insurance money from my account in return for one of these.

This does mean I will have a Edge 705 and a Magellan 710 available for sale.

An Exocet?

My purchases, today are:

1 SKS Airwork 10.0, to replace my leaking JoeBlow Sport*
1 Decathlon bottle cage mount thing to attempt a fork based light mount on the Renegade.

I discovered, upon trying to insert air into the tyres of the Renegade, that my 10 yr old Joe Blow Sport is leaking rather badly once I get over about 40psi.  It's really bad if a Tesco cheapy track pump can get more air into the tyre!

A Garmin Oregon 600 and a couple of bike mounts for the same. I think it's time to retire my trusty, but decidedly the worse for wear, Garmin Etrex Vista HCx.

A Rapha cycling cap off their ebay outlet for a tenner.

Well I'd lost the decathalon cheepie one and I fancied a little bling.

Been buying lots recently.

• A Bafang 8Fun 250W bottom bracket motor with 12ah bottle battery for my trike. Yes, I am getting old and lazy.
• Additional speed sensor cables for the 8Fun as I suspect the weird recumbent trike setup means the provided cable will be well too short
• A bottom bracket removal tool for my Truvativ GXP pedals (same as Shimano Hollowtech 2 tool)
• An Aldi-style toolbox for bike bits as I needed a pedal spanner and thought I might as well get the lot
I was hoping to fit the 8Fun this Saturday but it hasn't yet left Hong Kong so I guess I'm outta luck!

A few bits and pieces, mostly to keep some of HK's various machines running.
A pair of Shimano jockey pulleys
A pair of ceramic rims and some ceramic brake pads
A set of Shimano V-brake callipers and levers
Campag 1" threadless headset
Missing link pliers
Silver Ritchey handlebars and stem
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

559 from Practical Cycles. HK wears out rims on her bad weather commuter MTB at a fair rate of knots.

Hub brakes? Though I'm not sure if the reaction arm needs a frame mount or just a P-clip

She likes the bike she has and just wants it tweaked a bit. I won't be able to get a worthwhile disc brake replacement bike for under £100 but I can replace the rims and pads for that.
