New UK national anthem

Face it, the current one is dreary, no-one knows it all and it's quite militaristic.

What would you have as a replacement?

"Land Of Hope And Glory" is the obvious choice, but a bit colonial.

You can't have "Jerusalem" because it's specifically about England.

I nominate Billy Bragg's "Between The Wars"  :)

'Reasons to Be Cheerful' by Ian Dury    8) (not my idea originally; Nick Hornby suggested it, IIRC)

Or the Skint video version

"I was a miner
I was a docker
I was a railway man
Between the wars

I raised a family
In times of austerity
Yes I was fuckin' busy
Between the wars"

;)

The Archers theme.  Obviously.  "Time flies by..." is good too, but it has to be the Brian Cant version.
It was a day like any other in Ireland, only it wasn't raining

Sounds like we're having "Whole Lotta Love" if the closing ceremony's anything to go by.

Me;  I'd have Billy Bragg as well... "New England"  :)

I think we should have the pips as our national anthem.  No extras, just the pips.

P'raps we should just have the theme tune to Little Britain, complete with Tom Baker babblings. It would be short!

Or go the whole hog, slap our partners round the chops with a wet fish and make it "Finland, Finland, Finland".... :)
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

The The's Heartland ?

Although that's possibly a bit too depressing to sing on the Olympic Podium ;)

The current one just needs amending:

"God save our cycling team"

"Send us Victoria..."
Bingo! That's what I am, a saviour.

Oysterband - Native Son

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/JFvesGil3qg&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/JFvesGil3qg&rel=1</a>

First verse in Welsh - you could translate some of the other verses into Gaelic, Cornish and Manx

Probably not Norfolk or Geordie though - no one would understand it
