Lunchtime rides from SW1?
« on: 21 July, 2008, 02:28:36 pm »
I've decided I need to grab 30 - 40 mins of my lunch break (which I don't usually take at all) to get out on the bike, so tried it just now. I headed from Victoria Station towards Trafalgar Square, up to China Town and back via Piccadilly. It was terribly busy and not very pleasant. Nor did it give me a great opportunity to stretch my legs as I spent half the time waiting for lights to change.  ::-)

Does anyone have any good ideas for where I could go?

Thanks!

Nip across the river and try the same in Battersea Park?

Adam - I was heading for Hyde Park when I set off, but Liz had a lot of visitors clogging up the junction outside Buck House, so I headed towards Trafalgar Square instead.

Jurek - good idea, I had forgotten how close Battersea Park was.

Battersea Park is good.  Another one would be along Chelsea Embankment and into Chelsea Harbour and back.  Usually a fiarly quiet route at lunchtimes during the week - busy as hell at the weekends, particularly if there's a football match on.

Nothing compares with the embankment for stretching your legs :)

I had to read that a few times to understand why yacf Liz was taking visitors to Buck House before I realised you meant Queen Elizabeth II.  I blame my stupidity on the FNRttC & the Dun Run

But I thought our Liz lived in Buck House. I thought she had just moved in there with Charlotte.

When I worked in Victoria I would spin down to Brixton cycles in my lunch hour, spend a little while window shopping, and then spin back maybe stopping off at one of those Portugese deli/cafes.
