One more of us...
« on: 08 May, 2010, 06:35:05 pm »

Just back from Euston Station to meet Kim who is now the proud owner of my first ever 'bent, an HP Velotechnik SMGT.

Ten minutes practice down a side street and she was riding like the darksider she was clearly born to be.

Hope you have some fun times together, Kim

Wow, I almost look like I know what I'm doing in that second one  ;)

Got it pretty much sussed on the way home from Birmingham New Street, though, which involved getting up some proper speed and going round corners and things.

Some major fettling fun in the morning I think.  Turns out that I'm the anti-Charlotte in terms of leg:body length ratio, so having adjusted the boom the chain is more than a bit slack.  Then I can start working on those recumbent leg muscles

Welcome Kim.

Glad to hear you've got the hang of it. I love my StreetMachine, so know you'll have plenty of good times ahead.

Wow, just ten minutes.  I'm envious.  When I bought my Challenge Hurricane it took me about 20 minutes to figure it out.

I think Charlotte has this plan of putting her old bikes out to pasture in the midlands - retirement to the country so-to-speak!   I have Margaret Hilda, the Roberts tandem, now you have the bent.   Wonder what's next...   O:-)

I can't bear to part with bikes unless it's to friends who I know will love them as much as I did  :)

It was something of a crash course, so to speak.  I'm feeling it in my shoulder today, but have no bruises to show for it...

In that case, can I remind you that I'd love that gorgeous Roberts Transcontinental of yours when if you get round to selling her...   ;D :-*

In the unlikely event that I ever part with it, you have first dibs, okay?

I can confirm Kim is falling in love with the lovely shiny Streetmachine very quickly. We've spent most of the day cleaning, jibbling and fettling bits of it.  ;D

She's still at it now...

Jibbling?

I dread to think how that differs from fettling, and I'm afraid to ask. :-\ ??? ;D
Actually, it is rocket science.

She's still at it now...

Remembered I hadn't eaten anything, so, having got the chain sorted, cunningly stopped for food.  I'll put all the tools away in a bit, promise :)

'Jibbling' is all Jibbler's fault.  It's kind of half way between a fettle and a frob.

I'm not sure I grasp your meaning.  Aren't tools and components supposed to be spread evenly around the house? ???

btw, Hi Natalya.  I saw you posted a while ago, but we can hope to get to know you better :)
Getting there...

Of course.  But preferably in a way which makes them easier to find than it is to accidentally stand on them.

Hi Kim, Toxy ZR and Speed Ross owner here; - though the latter looks set to be annexed by my gf of a couple of months Anne, whom I've never seen wobble on it yet (unlike some, Chris?) and who can already get up 1:7s without too much difficulty.  (In fact I'm looking out for one on eBay so she can bl00dy-well ride her own bike in future instead of nicking my favourite one.)

I'm not sure a yong lady of decent moral fibre would regard that as a compliment

And another...

(apologies for the crap photo - the light was fading)

We went for a play in Cannon Hill Park this evening.  barakta got the hang of it even quicker than I did - without a single unplanned dismount - possibly due to a combination of having ridden an upright for all of about 20 minutes in the last decade, and the absence of oncoming taxis.  The bar position is incompatible with her arm length, so she has to sit up, and she can't operate the left-side controls, but she's clearly got darkside genes...

(She also managed to ride there and back on my folding bike, which has the twitchy-as-hell steering that is typical of the species, so a double success.)
