Since my recent trailer rebuild (http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=33329) (which probably should have been posted here :-[), it has been fairly dry on the allotment - so, as I still had plenty of trailer-making bits, I decided I needed a trailer to get water down there.
Parts: a bit of scrap tower scaffold, a pair of wheelchair wheels (from the dump), A barrel.

A couple of 1/2" bolts, some scrap box section steel and a couple of exhaust clamps - half an hour's welding and the axle unit is done.

The tower scaffold section is chopped about a bit, and the chassis is then assembled

Half full for a first run (using the watering can as a measure it held about 75 litres when I emptied it at the allotment) :smug:

It is very rough and ready at the moment as I just wanted to try the idea out. I need to make some adjustments to the way the barrel fits on.
It does work - no water spilt in getting nearly a mile to the allotment. Rolls OK. Must remember to wait for the water to stop sloshing about when mounting the bike - it shot forwards half a metre as I tried to swing my leg over the saddle and I nearly ended up in a heap on the floor. ::-)

I've had about 1/4 of a tonne on the big trailer.

You are a braver man that I! 100kg of compost gave mine the braking characteristics of an oil tanker on the hill down from the garden centre.
Nice trailer though.

Have you thought about putting baffles in the barrel?

90 litres in it today meant less slopping about. :thumbsup:
I think the barrel holds about 120 litres.

Put a valve on it so you can hook up a track pump and pressurise it.
Your own mini fire fighting appliance, it would have to be a very small fire though.

fab idea, John.
i have a trailer that i need to bring back into use; it lacks a body.
However, we have defunct barrels on the pontoon, I could saw one up . . . . If I can keep the screw-on lid, then it becomes waterproof :thumbsup:

I used to carry 13kg propane cylinders in mine. Got a telling off from a busybody once "You shouldn't get carrying them without warning stickers, it's illegal."
I looked at him loading cylinders into his car boot "So it's legal for you to have them in a boot without warning stickers, but not legal for me to have them in clear sight?"
"That's right"
I left him to continue frothing and threatening to report me to the police.

A weld broke on the bowser trailer last night. >:(
It's on a sleeved joint on the scaffold tower frame, so it should be fixable with a bolt through it.
