Not wanting to spoil things for fans, but I've always found MSR spectacularly dull in terms of action and scenery.  Probably watch a bit of it anyway  :D

Whereas I love it for what it symbolises for me, which is the transition from Il Passo del Turchino to the down to the Ligurian sea representing the transition from winter to spring. In my mind this is the first day of spring.

And throughout the race there's a crescendo of tension and speed as the riders heads towards Cipressa and Poggio. It's like listening to Ravel's Boléro.

Not that I would want to watch all 290 km!
What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!

I had much of it on my laptop whilst I was studying, so I could hear the commentary in the background but only switch to the images if I felt like it.  The Bolero analogy is very good.  There is also the poetic balance of predictability and unpredictability - you know exactly where it is going to happen - all the set pieces - and yet know nothing about the outcome - climber, rouleur, sprinter.
