Great cake!

Is there some reason I'm missing for the Beryl cake?  If so, then generic best wishes to whomever.

btw, Arch, Dolly Mixtures are meant to be mixed - it's in the name!  If your OCD forced you into sorting them, then my anti-OCD would frustrate me by trying the impossible of restoring some randomness ;D

The main reason for the Beryl cake is that while MFWHTBAB is under enforced sofa arrest with a bad leg, he's got very bored and taken up baking (scooting betwixt worktop and oven in an office chair).

He's also got a bit of a passion for Beryl (people think he comes over to visit me, bless them), so a Beryl cake seemed logical.

It's not so much the Dolly Mixtures being mixed, it's the fact that in the front bag they are mixed with Cola Bottles. We meant to have one bag of each, but the pack of cola bottles turned out to be too small, so we had to fill in underneath.

Funnily, when I turned up at work on my day off bearing CAKE, my boss asked if there was a reason. I think he thought we'd gone and got married on the quiet or something!

We went to Edinburgh and got given a Kirst-cake, which bore a striking resemblance to a very topical gold medal.

It was bloody lovely.

I gave a friend a lift to London for a concert on Sunday.

She offered me petrol money but I declined (I was going anyway). So she said she'd make me a cake of my choice.

She's an excellent cake maker so I thought about it for a while and ended up asking for the sort of cake my Nan made me when I was young - plain sponge with buttercream icing inside, white icing on the top and chocolate buttons.

Here it is in all its glory on Sunday:

Monday morning:

Monday afternoon:

Tuesday:

Wednesday:

Today:

And now:

May I just mentioned that I shared a slice with James every time so I've only eaten half the cake.

It has chocolate, more chocolate, and some more chocolate.

The only thing wrong with it is that it appears to still be there long enough to photograph.

The vapour pressure of this cake is high.  It's nearly all evaporated.

That photo was taken before delivery to Middle Earth from the cake mines of darkest Lincolnshire.

Possibly only lacking some even darker chocolate?  ;)

We're philistines who don't actually like dark chocolate.  Hence its absence (along with fruit, nuts and other traditional sources of cake inferiority).

Chacun à son goût :), as they say in Germany.  (Even if you don't like it to eat on its own, dark chocolate is a fantastic cooking ingredient).
