Overnight ride to spiritual retreat in Alnmouth
« on: 02 September, 2013, 01:50:20 pm »
I am lucky to have the opportunity to go for some many brilliant bicycle experiences at the moment.  This weekend just gone I was taking a spiritual retreat in Alnmouth.  The Society of St Francis have a friary where they practice hospitality.  There is an excellent library and the setting is dramatic.  The seaside is a boundary place, a place where you can see change happen.  Seemed like a lovely place to reflect on my faith.

So I rode through the night, over bridges in Durham and Newcastle, I saw the sun rise in Alnmouth and swam in the sea.  I prayed and read.  And I cycled home.

Balancing on two wheels - my journal.

Yet another fantastic ride report, very uplifting (no pun intended)!

I feel like Captain Kirk, on a brand new planet every day, a little like King Kong on top of the Empire State

Lovely stuff, Graeme.  I, too, love night-riding.  Fortunately, I don't get melancholy riding, though I am melancholic by nature.  Coincidentally, I spent a couple of nights at that retreat when  I was at university.  Special people.

A very good read indeed. I quite like the photos of the Toon with no one about in the early hours!
