Anyone started to think about their next 1200 and , if so, what are you thinking of entering?
-
PBP 2015 will probably be my next one.
-
Thinking, yes, but undecided. I'll be looking at the various calendars for what's on offer.
Kind of fancy the 1200 in Southland, New Zealand in Feb but that'll be expensive.
My original thoughts had been towards the French diagonals but I seem to want something more formal/organised and/or exotic perhaps.
-
I'm cheating and going for a 1000 next - Mille Alba is one of next year's goals.
-
Looking at the Dutch 1400 as my long one next year.
-
If I had lots of money it would be the Rocky mountain 1200 however I haven't :(
But I am doing the Mille Alba next year :)
-
Aiming at something bigger, the TransRussia. If I don't get enough time off, I'd settle for another 1200 next year, Vologda-Onega-Ladoga.
-
I'll definitely be at PBP2015, by hook or by crook.
Whether or not I'd try LEL or something similar in between is still up in the air. My knees were pretty shot after PBP - so much so that I've bought myself a bus pass to enforce rest!
-
Herentals - Cosne s/Loire - Herentals - http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=34801.msg1016028#msg1016028e (http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=34801.msg1016028#msg1016028e)
Speaking to Jan, the organiser at PBP and he definitely intends to run this one again next year.
-
My next 1200 will be my first one* & am aiming at LEL 2013.
*not counting a JoGLE done slowly
-
Looking at the Dutch 1400 as my long one next year.
Well you'll certainly see all of NL with that one , twice ?
-
LEL in 2013 I hope.
My longest audax next year will be the Alba 1000km.

Only once ;).
-
Also the Alba 1000 for my longest audax in 2012.
As much I enjoyed the Mille Miglia 1001 mile Italian challenge in 2010, I cannot justify sitting on a bike for 5 days in 2012 to repeat the achievement.. that's assuming it would all go well again!

Looks interesting... I'll keep an eye on that one appearing in the calendar.
-
Probably Herentals.
The 1200 from Tours (http://ledouzecents.blogspot.com/) looks extremely enticing. 23rd July start, 14000m climbing, 4 cols > 1400m.
I've also heard a rumour of a Brussels-Strasbourg-Brussels 1200 (via Luxembourg) somewhere. One for Tourist Tony, perhaps?.

Blimey, I've GOT to do that one! It It quite literally passes within 10km of my house!
-
Either that or you set up a road-side support table.

I bet that would be very welcome. It does sound rather 'shoestring' - All the controls are described as 'postcard or photo if you can't find a stamp'.
-
I've no idea what I'm going to do for a long ride next year. Maybe Mille Alba, maybe something else entirely. I'm keeping half an eye on the Baltic Star CC site to see what they are running; as I'm spending a fair amount of time in Finland at the moment a nip over into Russia for a St Petersburg ride could be interesting.
I'm also very interested in doing one of the Colorado 1200s, I'm not sure what John is intending running next year.
-
Baltic Star events are very advisable.
-
Their 3 countries one is one I'd make a definite effort for, even though it's "only" 1000km.
from BalticStar (http://balticstar.spb.ru/2010_en.htm)
In 20:00 18 june 2010 we have a 1000 km brevet - "3 Countries" with start
in Vyborg (Leningrad District) and CheckPoint finish in Helsinki (410 km).
From Helsinki to Tallinn on the ferry crossing (2 hour)
Estonia: Tallin-Tartu-Narva (410 km)
Russia: Ivangorod- Sosnovyi Bor-Petergor (190 km)

That DOES look interesting......

Will you stop it ... please! No more 1200s! Especially when you mention things like Herentals and Brussels. That is too much temptation!
Instead of Altitude Awards, I need Audax Anonymous, because what am I eyeing up? The Southern Kiwi Hunt.
Because my partner is a Kiwi and from Christchurch (start of the ride), she is actually, for the first time, encouraging me to take part!
What am I to do?

Do your really need to ask?

No plans yet. Mrs CET has vetoed anything next year and I will be helping with LEL in '13. Was originally going to take time to climb Mt Robson in the Rockies in 2014 so it might end up being PBP '15 :( However, do have a hankering for Madrid - Gijon - Madrid if it runs again.

I'm used to that! All of my brevet qualifiers were like that!
If you guys seriously think offering support would be welcome then I'll contact the organiser. If the organiser didn't want to re-route via my place, the route actually passes through the town of my club and I could probably find someone to man a control/support. Reckon I'll be riding it, too convenient not too. Plus I can prepare for/reccie much of the ride at my leisure. Quite excited by the prospect in honesty! ;D
-
My next long event will probably something En Ecosse and then definatly Herintals and Lowlands 1400 if they dont clash.

Why does everyone keep talking about a dutch 1400 or the lowlands 1400?
I was talking to Gerricht at PBP and he said nothing about increasing the distance, is it still a 1200 and a simple mistake by posters or is everyone talking about something else compared to me.

There are two different events, the Lowlands 1200 which was held last year and the Dutch capitals 1400 which will be held next year. The link I gave is the link from the organiser.
-
Thanks for the clarification. Looks like I will try the Dutch Capitals 1400 then next year.

I can recommend you the Bavarian 1200k starting August 13th in Osterdorf, roughly between Munich & Nuremberg (closer to Nuremberg)
I found this report in English language:
http://emilysdomain.org/bayern1200k/index.html
The ride is actually 1267k (at least was in 2009) and has about 13000m of climb. It is quite tough. You basically follow the border of Bavaria with some riding in the Alps as well.
The website is only in Germany (as one might expect ;) )

If you have any questions, you can ask me.

Els, you should enter. that is all you have to do. Don't make any plans to actually go there and ride it. After all, entering it is really very easy :demon:. And a journey of 1,000 miles starts with the first step. :smug: :demon:
Then once you have entered it, you can decide whether or not you want to ride it. That decision is easy to make. ;D
Should you then decide you want to ride it, then just go and do it.
What could be easier? 8)

Speaking of German rides, I am mightily intrigued by this ride - the Grenzstein Trophy (aka Border Stone Trophy). A north to south ride along the former German Iron Curtain, ca 1300km off-road, zero pre-arranged support. Not an Audax but pretty much in the spirit of audax. Paul Errington (who abandoned the ride after 700km on a single speed MTB) wrote about the 2011 edition here - http://shoestring-racing.blogspot.com/2011/06/grenzstein-experience.html .
... after all, Mille Alba is not really a step up from PBP this year...
-
Grenzstein Trophy
I've also been interested in this since I heard about it last year. Paul Errington wasn't very complimentary about the quality of the route last year, but a new (better?) route seems to be being planned for 2012.

Good on yer cuzzie bro!
It looks to be a truly epic ride, and not without challenge - from the website....
This will not be an easy ride with over 14,000m of climbing but the scenery is wonderful.
Accommodation is limited with YHA hostels at Wanaka (470km), Franz Josef (756km) and Greymouth (930km).
There is a camping ground at Omarama (358km) and a backpacker lodge at Haast (615km) and at Lake Paringa (663km).
Not sure I'd fancy lugging camping gear around those climbs (though some NZ campsites do have cabins too) so I'd be looking at the YHAs plus finding something before 470km as a just-in-case.
I reckon it'll be a beaut of a ride!
Edit: the Omarama camping (http://www.omaramatop10.co.nz/Omarama-Top-10-Holiday-Park/Accommodation_IDL=1_IDT=2946_ID=16848_.html) does have cabins "single traveller cabins (backpacker type)" - sorted!!

I'd like to do the Rocky Mountain too. I have an old friend that lives out there who would be good to visit as part of a trip to do this. But a combination of various things mean that this is unlikely
I will either do Madrid-Gijon-Madrid 1200 or LEL in 2013

It says the GPS track will be online July 15 (actually "around" July 15). Dates are official when announced after November 1st, as they have been told to ACP and the Dutch Cycle Touring Association by then.

Sorry, my fault then. Thanks. Rob
