They'll have a problem making critical mass if it takes 5 minutes to explain what it is.

Mail: it's a letter.  For your computer.
Twitter: It's a text.  For your phone or computer.
Wiki: It's a book anyone can edit.

Wave: Well, what it is, see, is a wholly novel paradigm....

It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

I did apply when they first unveiled it, but I've not received an invitation.

Never mind. I imagine I'll only have to wait a couple of months.

Anyone remember the Novell Netware email client?

The one that had built-in threading, workgroup notification of file alterations, locking and publication (*any* file from *any* application), etc?

Methinks Google found an old fan of the Netware email client and did a bit of reverse engineering.

One description I read talked about 'wiki-like' features, but I don't see any of those on the summary.

It's a kind of mashup of email, instant messaging, social network, and collaborative work environment.  Operating within a standards-compliant browser, and with a pretty straightforward interface (I write as a longtime Mac user who's more than usually sensitive to UI stuff).

Seems to work fairly reliably even now, though some bits aren't finished.

Think it looks like a Good Thing--a kind of Web 2.0 one-stop shop.  Open source--there are already widgets to do things like automatically publish documents to blogs or wikis.  I'm not a geek but I'm quite excited by Wave...

All right, maybe I am a geek...
