[HAMR] The Great British Marsh Gibbon Tea Towel Auction
« on: 07 March, 2015, 02:00:13 pm »
To boost the coffers of Steve's support fund, March sees the first auction of these exclusive Gibbon Time tea towels showing his daily distances from that most English of English villages, Marsh Gibbon.

Only three tea towels will be available for sale, each signed and numbered. They are 100% cotton with high resolution print and are machine washable at 30oC. Multi-purpose, they can be used for serving tea and scones to the village vicar, fashioned into a Rapha-style hipster neckerchief while on t'cog to the local artisan coffee shop and will make an ideal gift for your grandchildren to flog off on Antiques Roadshow 2083.

Prices will be determined by YACF auction (Yaebay).

Auction Rules

Bids for a tea towel can be placed by replying on this thread naming your price. You can bid as many times as you wish. The three highest bids posted before midnight, 21st March 2015 will each receive a tea towel. The winning bidders should then donate their nominated sum directly to Steve's support fund, after which I will send them their tea towel. If, for any reason, a bidder does not wish to declare in public the sum they wish to donate, they can PM me and I will post an anonymous bid to this thread on their behalf.

Getting the tea towels printed up and posted has cost me around £75 (I've printed five in total - one for Steve, three for auction and one for me), so I think a reasonable reserve price for a tea towel would be £20.

These will become very valuable. If only 5 are produced, that will make them rarer than 1933 pennies.

Yes he has.  You only need to come 3rd to secure a tea towel.

Edit.  Beaten to it by Ham.

Wouldn't it work better to do a 'dip' in the style of facebook? You could raise more and those of us who are skint but could put in a pound or 2 would still be in with a chance.

Fair point. I am not familiar with Facebook 'dips'; is that like a raffle?

Happy to try that for the March/April version (if there is demand), but probably not wise to change the rules for the Jan/Feb tea towel now we've started.

I don't know anything about facebook 'dips', but any lottery will be subject to the Gambling Act and Gambling Commission.

Their info is not clear to me, but I suspect selling tickets 'in public' may require a licence.

It does appear you can sell tickets at work, or a school fete, or via a club or society, but none of that applies to a free-for-all on facebook.

One could, of course, just bash on, treating the regulations like a motorway speed limit, but that's not a risk I would take.
