[HAMR] Marsh Gibbon support
« on: 14 March, 2015, 06:41:06 am »
As Marsh Gibbon has been picked up on as a common point for a number of Steve's  routes, I contacted the parish council and the school to see if they were interested in supporting him.

Am waiting to hear back from the school but the parish council have agreed to allowing some visible support for Mr Abraham as he goes through the village. What this will actually be is for us to suggest but I wondered if anyone who lives near Marsh Gibbon could look into what we could do and where it could be placed.

If anyone can help, send me a PM.

I suggest a banner would be useful - I can see it turning into something reported locally, then nationally.

"The Sleepy little village that might become internationally famous.

Marsh Gibbon is not particularly noted for anything. A small village of &&&&& inhabitants, the village has found itself unwittingly becoming a source of international attention. Steve Abraham, currently challenging a 70-odd year old record (insert links to previous articles and the One year timetrial site), has been frequently passing through the village on his 200mile-plus cycle rides each day. Fans noted this and early on started speculating at what point (and how many times) Steve would pass through the village each day.
The local parish council (in conjunction with blah blah) has erected a banner welcoming Steve to the village (insert photo). "

etc etc.

If the local gibbonites are amenable, how about getting lots of old red bikes, cut-outs etc on the sides of houses, just like they did in Yorkshire last summer? (Idea attributed to Mrs Aoxomoxoa)

Could also be a good opportunity to get the local kids interested in cycling. I'll speak to one of the coaching committee members at Bicester Millennium Cycling Club to see what could be arranged, once you hear back from the school.

I can picture crowds of school children lining the thoroughfares of Marsh Gibbon cheering as Steve comes powering through!

Of course Steve's bikes are black, with a red-clad rider.

I believe a parallel is being drawn with the Yellow bikes that littered Yorkshire during le Tour.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

Great idea, Hummers, but... can you make that rear wheel (+ rack?) somehow resemble the letter T? :)

The county council has a collection of old photos, some of which might come in handy, here -

I only found one of Marsh Gibbon with a bicycle in it, though.

Or make the back wheel an M.
Pandering to civic pride might work.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

I have wondered about making it a wider appeal than just Marsh Gibbon.

First off, let's get some input from someone with a talent for this sort of thing - there must be someone who has some skills on here - any suggestions?
