[HAMR] Cheerleading at Milton Keynes Bowl
« on: 17 April, 2015, 03:04:11 pm »
Just picking up on the idea (from the Day 106 thread) of gathering at the Bowl to cheer Steve on - I thought I'd start a new thread on that. I'm not available this weekend but have pencilled in the following weekend, either Saturday or Sunday. Assuming of course Steve hasn't died of boredom and abandoned the Bowl for the open road by then!

Anyone else?  And of course anyone going this weekend feel free to post here.   :)

Well, I'm in no state for tonight's ride, so hopping on a train to Milton Keynes tomorrow should be doable...

Yep, it's tonight's ride that means I'm not able to go to MK tomorrow. Well, that, and an impending Open University assignment deadline. :p

If people can do tomorrow I can. Can't do the following weekend.

I think tomorrow is RoadRunner's wedding, so quite a few might not be available.
It is simpler than it looks.

I can't do this weekend, but I would very much like to go some Saturday soon.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

I also couldn't do this weekend, and next weekend I believe several other forummers may also be busy due to a couple of other events, but if he is still going in a couple of weeks' time, we would definitely like to pootle over and cheer him on.

Car boot at the bowl on Sundays and it's manic there, hence Steve looks like doing a tour of the redways around MK today.

What's the deal with access to the track?  I've never been there, and people are talking about locked gates, which would make turning up on spec unwise.

What if Steve "worked" a night shift? did nights instead of days?

My plan was to park at the shopping village at Bicester Tesco.

The thread title just gave me a fantastic mental image of yacf's finest in short skirts and pom-poms cheering Steve on. Unfortunately my pom poms are in the wash so I won't be able to join in.

My audax wingman and I are considering  a long Perm on BH Monday.

Anyone know how likely cheerleading opps are at the bowl?

I've been struggling to find a free day to go up there in any case but apparently the cheerleading idea is a non-starter!

Steve's team said in a comment on his FB page earlier this week:
"MK Bowl has strict regulations on who can enter when Steve's riding there. Members of the public are strictly forbidden and only signed up support team members (registered with UMCA and approved by supervisor from BRCC) can enter the track while Steve's there. Really sorry. We know how much support there is out there for Steven."

Glad I found out before turning up at the gate!

We'll just have to resort to stalking him at Marsh Gibbon when he's back on the road.

What could be the rationale behind this rule ?

At a guess, it'll be insurance-related.

Might be semi-spurious, but it's quite possible they think their public liability cover wouldn't extend to spectators who aren't at a formally organised event.

Either that, or Steve & co don't want to risk cheerleaders being classed as helpers, and the UMCA DQing him on the technicality that they're not signed up as team members.

Could be that as it's a closed circuit you could be accused of crewing by handing him food etc as he goes past.
The internet warriors jump at any little thing whatsoever and no one wants a disqualification for something silly.

It would be a brave official that DQed a man riding a trike one-legged :D

But being serious, I understand the cautious approach. Its just produced a rather unfortunate outcome on this occasion ...
